Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on driving reliability, throughput, and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment by troubleshooting production issues, optimizing processes, and implementing robust engineering solutions. The Manufacturing Engineer partners closely with production, maintenance, controls, and quality teams to reduce downtime, improve process capability, and support the introduction of new tooling and equipment. This position offers the opportunity to influence key industrial processes, support a product that directly impacts lives, and contribute to increased automation within a modern, clean, and recently remodeled facility.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and address production line stoppages to restore flow quickly and minimize downtime.
  • Analyze root causes of production issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and reduce recurring problems.
  • Partner with production leadership and operators to sustain output levels, meet quality requirements, and support daily manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain and update process documentation, including standard work instructions, troubleshooting procedures, and control plans.
  • Develop and manage process control plans to ensure consistent product quality and process stability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies and Lean manufacturing tools.
  • Apply problem-solving tools such as 5-Why and 8D to investigate and resolve production challenges.
  • Work closely with maintenance and controls teams to diagnose and resolve equipment and controls-related issues.
  • Identify and engage vendors, assisting in the development of specifications for tooling, equipment, and materials.
  • Design and implement fixtures and tooling that minimize defects, improve ergonomics, and control production costs.
  • Document tooling designs and equipment concepts in coordination with R&D and quality teams to ensure alignment with product and process requirements.
  • Source, install, and validate new equipment and process tools to support production improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Support the Finishing Value Stream, including CNC machining, adhesion, application of Velcro, paint preparation and painting, assembly, and packaging.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience.
  • Hands-on manufacturing engineering experience, including troubleshooting production processes and industrial equipment.
  • SolidWorks design experience for fixtures, tooling, and equipment concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles and knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, material properties, electro-mechanical systems, and heat transfer.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, including SMED, line balancing, and single-piece flow.
  • Experience using root cause analysis tools such as 5-Why and 8D.
  • Ability to edit PLC recipes and understand how to create or modify recipe parameters.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to lead root cause analysis efforts and implement corrective actions across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience programming PLCs in addition to editing PLC recipes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, methodologies, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Experience with composites and adhesive processes.
  • ERP/MES integration experience for routings and bills of materials.
  • Experience supporting or leading automation projects within a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a recently remodeled, extremely clean manufacturing facility that produces mission-critical products designed to protect users from serious impact-related injuries. The environment is fast paced and hands-on, with approximately 60% of time spent on the production floor and 40% at a desk performing analysis, design, documentation, and coordination. The facility features modern amenities, including a game room area, and emphasizes a clean, organized, and safety-conscious production environment.
