Overview
The Civil Structural Engineer will have the opportunity to work on the design and analysis of a wide variety of complex steel and concrete Low Temperature and Cryogenic (LT&C) storage tank structures constructed for CB&I projects throughout the world.
CB&I is seeking engineers with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil structural engineering with 2 to 5 years of industry experience in structural engineering. Professional licensing is a plus.
Responsibilities
The Civil Structural Engineer is responsible for performing or checking the design and analysis of assigned deliverables on a CB&I project associated with a LT&C storage tank structures product line. The work includes among other things, design calculations, specification development and construction documents. Over the course of time, capabilities for Civil Structural Engineer will increase as the level of complexity of assignments increases and expectations expand for working independently with less supervision. The role reports to the Department or Design Manager and routinely interacts with other Civil Structural Engineers, Civil Structural Designers, Project Engineers and Managers.
Responsibilities Include:
  • The design and analysis of LT&C storage structures including steel plate storage structures and concrete outer containment structures.
  • Accurately produce assigned deliverables per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications.
  • Adhere to regulations and bylaws of local professional engineering jurisdictions and code of ethics in protection of the public and the environment.
  • Ensure designs and details are safe for field erection and use, with constructability in mind.
  • Reliably check and sign off on design calculations, specifications and other deliverables for customer approval or project use per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications.
  • Run programs to produce design calculations in designated software.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and depending on size and complexity of scope of work may be assigned to a leadership role for a project.
  • Coordinate with other roles and functions on project team.
  • Collaborate with drafters, modelers and detailers, as well as personnel from sales, estimating, operations and project management functions.
  • Be able to perform most common design tasks without constant direct supervision

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Structural Engineering from an accredited school.
  • 0 to 10 years of industry experience in civil structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineering registered is desired.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of AISC, ASCE, IBC, API, ACI and associated structural and seismic codes is required.
  • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license in at least one state upon achieving the required amount of work experience.
