Temporary Employee - Non-Exempt
The Temporary Clinical Research Database Developer supports the development, implementation, validation, and maintenance of automated clinical and research data pipelines that integrate radiation oncology treatment data into the Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN) research infrastructure. The position serves as the primary technical resource for extracting, transforming, validating, and securely transferring radiation therapy data between Penn Radiation Oncology and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). This role enables integration of radiation treatment, imaging, clinical, genomic, and biospecimen data to support pediatric brain tumor research, multicenter collaborations, and future AI-driven research initiatives. This position is expected to work a maximum of 20 hours per week position and is contingent upon grant funding.

Job Description

Temporary Employee - Non-Exempt

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize automated radiation oncology data extraction and
    integration pipelines from Penn clinical systems.

  • Validate extracted radiation therapy datasets, perform quality assurance, investigate
    discrepancies, and document corrective actions.

  • Design, implement, and maintain structured data mappings between Penn clinical systems, REDCap, O3 data model, and CBTN
    databases.Data engineering: Standardize radiotherapy data element extraction in O3 ontology format for AI/MLready
    datasets.

  • Support secure automated data transfer and interoperability between Penn, CHOP, and research infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with investigators, clinical faculty, research coordinators, data scientists, and institutional IT to support research initiatives and technical implementation.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, metadata standards, workflow documentation, and validation procedures.

  • Participate in pilot testing, workflow validation, and deployment of production ready data automation processes.

  • Support approved research projects by preparing datasets, assisting investigators, and participating in multidisciplinary planning meetings.

  • Monitor production systems, troubleshoot technical issues, and recommend workflow improvements to ensure reliable data acquisition and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience required. Degree in computer science, data science, informatics or a comparable program preferred.

Position is contingent upon grant funding.
