Job description

Job Summary

The Chief Engineer will lead the engineering team in the design, planning, and execution of underground mining operations for the Kettle River Operations.  Supervise and coordinate engineering and mine support activities in an efficient manner consistent with health, safety, and environmental standards to achieve production and operation cost goals.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee and establish standards of mine design and mine planning aligning with corporate standards.
  • Develop and control mine plans and schedules at an appropriate level of detail, optimizing short- and long-term goals.
  • Recommend actions when needed to eliminate potential production problems and improve safety, operational efficiency, and protect the environment.
  • Provide technical support, advice and assistance to operations, technical services and project groups.
  • Coordinate with other departments (geology, production, environment, and safety) to align engineering goals with overall mine objectives.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on mine performance, including production metrics, safety statistics, and compliance audits.
  • Supervise and analyze ore control techniques to optimize ore recovery.
  • Develop and review quarterly, annual, and life-of-mine forecasts and budgets for all mines within the operational unit.
  • Update the Operations Manager and the Technical Services Manager with daily, weekly, monthly, and budget reports.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Manage and mentor the engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and company regulations and requirements.
  • Provide mine engineering support and expertise for technical studies including cost estimation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mine Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of mine engineering; experience in an underground production setting is required.
  • 4+ years of experience in a supervisory role with proven team building skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in coordinating the mine engineering functions for study phases, basic and detailed engineering through site development and operations.
  • Background in longitudinal and transverse long-hole mining in a geological complex environment
  • Better than working knowledge of rock mechanics, drill and blast, ventilation systems, BECOG calculations, reconciliation, water management, cemented rock fill, fixed plant, and short interval control.
  • General knowledge of mining and the integration of milling, and maintenance functions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multi-disciplinary technical team and with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineering team.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations from 30 CFR.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage time-sensitive projects with a positive and determined attitude.
  • Team player with intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, an innovative bent, and persistent attention to detail.
  • Experienced in mining specific software (i.e. Deswik and Ventsim,
  • Proficient in the use of the MSOffice software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and authorized to work in the US.
