Temporary CDL Drivers often work with different companies and routes, which can mean frequently adjusting to new vehicles, delivery procedures, and team dynamics. What is a temporary CDL driver?

Temporary CDL Drivers are commercial drivers who are hired on a short-term basis to operate vehicles that require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), such as trucks, buses, or other large vehicles. These drivers may be employed to fill in for permanent staff, meet seasonal demand, or assist with special projects. Temporary CDL driving positions can range from a few days to several months, depending on the employer's needs. The main responsibilities include transporting goods or passengers safely, following all traffic laws, and maintaining accurate records of deliveries or routes.

A temporary CDL driver works for a company as a substitute driver, a contractor, or a freelancer, without a permanent position. As a temporary CDL driver, your job duties depend on the needs of each client and the type of CDL license you hold. You may operate small trucks and make local deliveries, or you may drive large cargo loads longer distances that require you to stay overnight before returning home. Temporary CDL drivers may work a particular route for a set amount of time, or you may receive assignments on an on-call basis.
