The Assistant Vice President will provide management, leadership, coordination and support for Center for BrainHealth (BrainHealth), which is a campus-wide resource that sits squarely at the intersections of innovative research discovery, translations that are already benefitting our world, traditional academics with training of future brain health experts who span all schools (e.g., Business, Economics, Engineering, Math Computer Science, Communications, Education, Arts Humanities and Technology, and Cognitive Neuroscience), and actionable interventions that can be delivered directly or via strategic partnerships and other traditional and non-traditional commercialization vehicles.
This position will work with BrainHealth and UTD teams supporting and enhancing UT Dallas' exemplary brand identity with the strong brand value attributed to the BrainHealth and Brainomics trademarks that provide additional paths for UTD to distinguish itself as a premier academic research institution helping to ensure the production and management of a united and consistent image across all segments of BrainHealth's media channels and those that intersect with the University's media channels, as well as with affiliated investigators and collaborators from across the United States and across the globe.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field of study with ten years of related professional work experience and 3 or more years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
10+ years of experience in a variety of non-profit and commercial settings is critical to this executive role given the fact that BrainHealth is in a unique and ideal setting within the UTD ecosystem to apply proven new advancements, offering a rich and truly interdisciplinary environment representing diverse areas of expertise, leading in both framing and answering the questions faced by business and healthcare professional, policy makers, and the public, working directly with industry, government agencies, and public and private schools across Texas and the nation, and developing and mentoring creativity and innovative thinking across the lifespan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to BrainHealth's Chief Director, the successful Assistant Vice President of BrainHealth Marketing and Communications will design and implement a strategic marketing and communication plan that:
  • enhances UTD's reputation with leading-edge fundamental research focused on discovering scientifically valid ways to measure, enhance, and monitor brain health and performance through novel measurements, interventional strategies, and innovative delivery technologies, translates discoveries into scalable training services and assessments that increase brain health and performance through programs and services,
  • expands awareness of a novel academic discipline in "Brainomics" in partnership with UTD's Economic School of Political and Policy Sciences,
  • provides schools, students, and researchers across UTD (and more broadly across DFW) a shared resource in its state-of-the-art, research-dedicated Sammons BrainHealth Imaging Center focused on exploring the innovative potential of imaging technology to discover some of the first metrics to chart gains in brain health and function,
  • expands the reach, depth and breadth of research through BrainHealth's signature initiative, The BrainHealth Project, a landmark study with an online assessment, coaching access, and training platform that allows us to scale our work internationally,
  • generates rich commercialization and revenue-generation opportunities given the ongoing discoveries from its interventional programs and services tested outside a laboratory and into a real world setting with the military, in workplaces, in schools & universities, in communities, and in niche arenas including neurodiverse populations across the age-span, as well as the growing neuro-tech market with its VR-based coaching and assessment platform and novel BrainHealth Index, all of which distinctly measures the upward potential of brain performance, and
  • amplifies our research reputation with evidenced-based tools to become a nexus for testing the impact of developing brain health protocols, drug regimens and neurotech devices, that purportedly improve brain performance.

The Assistant Vice President will
  • lead a team of diverse team of graphic designers, production specialists and marketing writers to produce printed and online collateral,
  • meet regularly with communications staff to coordinate efforts that support the broad challenge of enhancing BrainHealth's and UTD's brand,
  • work with staff across the university to ensure consistent messaging and branding are consistent with institutional guidelines, protecting UT Dallas' and BrainHealth's brand identity and trademarks,
  • lead the central BrainHealth team, in conjunction with the University marketing team, establishing brand standards, guidelines and marketing messaging for the university, its schools, units, partners and external vendors that interact with BrainHealth,
  • oversee production of all creative services, including the review and production of all marketing materials,
  • work with BrainHealth and campus constituents to develop materials for internal and external audiences, across partner schools, development, and student affairs, among others,
  • oversee BrainHealth-wide marketing efforts through paid advertising in digital, broadcast and print media, ensuring that our message is consistent with institutional strategic goals,
  • manage central marketing efforts in support of graduate student recruitment, in collaboration with the Office of Graduate Studies and school-specific marketing staff,
  • oversee of all aspects of BrainHealth branding, while managing BrainHealth's marketing relationship with UTD and UT System's licensing office, external printers and other vendors.

Additional duties include: Supervise marketing and communications directors and/or managers within the Center for BrainHealth and collaborate with other departments at UT Dallas; work with the Chief Director to engage deans and other associate vice presidents in ongoing dialog regarding opportunities to leverage the unique blend of University and BrainHealth brand assets; quantify and summarize communications achievements in the area of media relations on an annual basis; work as a colleague with University news center and web services director; lead administrative role in crisis communication; respond to or manage staff response to media inquiries as they arise; participate in planning of overall communication strategy and marketing campaigns; and supervise communication directors' and managers' work on marketing communications in partnership with the Chief Director.
