Job description

Job Title (Position):              Industrial Painter

Reports To:                            Paint/Blast Foreman

Classification:                            Hourly (non-exempt)

Job/Position Summary

            Industrial painter is responsible for understanding the various types of paint and metal surfaces to be painted. They are responsible for prep and final coast to areas. This individual is accountable for all daily cleaning and routine maintenance of equipment and surrounding work area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Know and understand paint processes
  • Surface Preparation Inspection Devices; Digital Micrometer (Elcometer)
    • Recording of surface profile depth
    • Blast Nozzle Inspection
    • Blotter Testing
  • DFT Devices; Digital Posit Ector
    • Recording of DFT
  • Measuring & Recording WFT
  • Sling Psychrometer
    • Obtaining and recording Due Point.
  • Recording dry bulb temp (air temp), wet bulb temp, depression, relative humidity, surface temp and paint temp
    • Relationship of surface temp vs. dew point
    • The effects of adverse temperatures on the coating process; cure times, pot life, etc.
  • Usage of Low Voltage Holiday Detector
  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment: Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
  • Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
  • Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
  • Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
  • Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
  • Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
  • May examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Know all safety policies involved in paint usage and disposal.
  • Responsible for Quality Control of units.
  • Daily Maintenance:
    • Purging/cleaning hoses and paint pump after every use and properly disposes of waste material.
  • Work with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 70# from floor to waist 
  • Able to lift 50# from waist to shoulder and overhead 
  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull 50# 
  • Able to bend, twist, squat, kneel, lay on back, etc. multiple times a day 
  • Able to stand on feet for long periods of time 
  • Able to be in “confined spaces” 
  • Able to hold mechanical tools for a long period of time 
  • Able to work at heights higher than 4 feet 
  • Climbing/standing on ladder for a period of time 
  • Be comfortable wearing a respirator mask and pass a respirator fit exam.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and ability requirements)

  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Seven years of previous manufacturing and tank painting experience. This is an INDUSTRIAL painter position. MUST know how to mix paints, safely operate pressure spray guns, and Read MSDS.
  • Familiar with Surface Cleanliness Standards; SSPC, NACE
  • Knows how to read and interpret Paint Product Data Sheets
  • Knowledge of various kinds of paint: Sherwin Williams Enamel, Enamel, COTE-HT coating, MACROPOXY primer, Hi-Solid’s polyurethane, Nova-plate epoxy coating, Dura-plate 235 coating, Scotch coat.
    • Mix paint by paint specification.
    • LEL Monitor experience
  • Must be well-versed in all paint procedures

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

  • Knowledge of oil and gas industry
  • Knowledge of products manufactured by PESCO

Standard Working Hours and Conditions

          Hours:                         4:30 pm to 2:00 am (nights) 

            Days:                           Monday to Friday – occasional weekends

            Environment:             Inside/outside in extreme weather climate and temperatures
