Job description

Position Information The purpose of this classification is to coordinate with various agencies and construction projects to manage the impact of construction on traffic flow and to manage the traveler information systems that communicate traffic conditions to the traveling public in Cobb County. Essential Functions Coordinates with construction managers and traffic engineers on major projects to minimize roadway impacts and conflicts due to construction traffic, lane closures and road closures: and manages the temporary lane closure permit process. Communicates traffic alerts to emergency services, other stakeholders, County administrators, department management, and the traveling public: identifies, locates, and reports accidents in a timely manner; provides detailed information regarding construction, accidents, traffic delays, detours, and other events; and utilizes changeable message signs, Traffic Watch, Twitter, website, and other subscriber services.

Assists signal timing technical staff with timing or re-timing of intersections, and signal crews in troubleshooting traffic control and management at intersections. Participates in projects and initiatives regarding transportation management systems: tests and evaluates systems; participates in coordinating and planning implementation of new systems; and participates in project meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Communications, or related field required; supplemented by three years experience working with automated traffic control and traffic monitoring systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
