Job Title: Data Operator
Job Description
The Data Operator plays a key role in an office-based central station, handling incoming calls and data entry tasks while using Microsoft Outlook and Excel on a daily basis. This position works on 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM and is responsible for directing calls to appropriate departments such as police, emergency services, or internal staff, and accurately creating and updating service tickets.
Responsibilities
- Use Microsoft Outlook and Excel daily to perform data entry, order entry, and clerical tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Field incoming calls to the central station and promptly direct them to the appropriate departments, including police, emergency services, and internal employees.
- Create, update, and maintain service tickets and records in accordance with established procedures and standard operating protocols.
- Monitor incoming security-related signals or alerts and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure timely and appropriate responses.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service over the phone and through electronic communication, addressing inquiries and resolving basic issues.
- Apply moderate Excel skills, including the use of basic formulas such as SUMIFS, to organize and analyze data as needed.
- Perform general clerical duties such as typing, order entry, and maintaining organized records and documentation.
- Learn and operate the phone system and related monitoring tools efficiently after training.
- Adhere to a strict schedule following completion of the training period and maintain consistent attendance and reliability.
- Collaborate with team members on-site to ensure that at least two staff members are present at all times in accordance with facility requirements.
- Follow all workplace policies, procedures, and SOPs to maintain a secure, compliant, and efficient central station environment.
Essential Skills
- Recent data entry experience within the past 2 years, demonstrating strong accuracy and speed.
- Recent customer service experience within the past 2 years, ideally in a phone-based or service-oriented environment.
- Moderate Microsoft Excel proficiency, including knowledge of basic formulas such as SUMIFS.
- Experience in a clerical role of some sort within the past 2 years, involving typing, record keeping, or office administration.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Outlook and Excel, used on a daily basis.
- Phone experience handling incoming calls and directing them appropriately.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) consistently and accurately.
- Strong dependability and reliability, with a proven track record of regular attendance.
- Ability to work 2nd shift hours from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, including weekends, while maintaining a consistent schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience monitoring incoming security signals or alerts and responding according to SOPs.
- Strong typing skills and comfort with order entry and data entry systems.
- Ability to learn new phone systems and monitoring tools quickly during the training period.
- Comfort working in a central station or call center environment with multiple monitors.
- Willingness to complete a structured 6-week training program and transition to a fixed schedule.
- Commitment to providing courteous, professional customer service to internal and external callers.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure required on-site staffing levels are maintained.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office-style central station environment, working 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The workplace uses multiple monitors, a phone system, and Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook and Excel, as part of daily operations. The environment is casual for 2nd shift, and employees may dress in jeans and a shirt. The facility is UL certified, which requires that at least two people be on site at all times. The schedule includes weekend work, with employees always receiving two consecutive days off and enjoying a four-day weekend once a month. New hires complete a 6-week training period with a floating schedule that still provides two weekdays off, after which they move to a strict, consistent schedule. Benefits become available upon conversion to permanent status, and employees receive regular annual salary reviews in a competitive pay environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
