Job description

Sr. Azure Infrastructure Engineer

V. District of Ohio (VDOT) seeks a highly experienced Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to lead the implementation, configuration, governance, and ongoing management of our enterprise Azure environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building and maintaining secure, resilient, and scalable cloud platforms—and who is ready to set the standard for cloud excellence across the organization.

9120 Lockwood Blvd, Mechanicsville, VA 23116 (Hybrid 2-3 days on site)

Compensation

$130,000‑140,000 annually with benefits

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on the design, implementation, configuration, and governance of Azure resources, networking, and security policies.
  • Implement, maintain, and monitor mission‑critical cloud resources in a large enterprise environment.
  • Manage and optimize enterprise backup and disaster recovery operations, ensuring reliability and continuity.
  • Plan, lead, and execute cloud migration initiatives, including moving workloads from on‑premises to Azure.
  • Work with architecture, security, development, and governance teams to integrate solutions.
  • Provide operational support and troubleshooting for production applications and infrastructure.
  • Utilize security tools such as Tenable to manage vulnerability remediation and improve security posture.
  • Build meaningful observability solutions using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, Alerts, and related tooling.
  • Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery (DR) strategies to minimize downtime and protect critical data.
  • Demonstrate strong networking knowledge, including OSI model concepts, core network protocols, and network‑level troubleshooting.
Qualifications
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with Azure services, Terraform IaC, cloud infrastructure design, security best practices, governance, and operational management.
  • A strong sense of ownership—someone who embraces complex challenges and sees them through from design to delivery.
  • The ability to guide, mentor, and cross‑train other engineers, fostering a strong engineering culture.
  • Confidence in communicating technical recommendations, risks, and strategies to management and executive leadership.
