Job description

Exciting Opportunity at Hologic: Become a Lead Cloud DevOps Platform Engineer!

Are you a Cloud DevOps Platform expert eager to drive innovation in healthcare? Join Hologic's Breast & Skeletal Health Division as a Lead Cloud DevOps Platform Engineer and play a pivotal role in transforming the developer experience for medical device software. As the primary bridge between cloud strategy and day-to-day developer operations, you will design, build, and maintain our Internal Developer Platform (IDP), ensuring our teams ship innovative solutions with high velocity, security, and push-button compliance. This role may sit in Newark, DE, Santa Clara, CA, Marlborough, MA or can sit remotely. This is your chance to be part of something truly transformative and contribute to advancements in women's health.

Key Responsibilities:

Platform as a Product: Design and evangelize a self-service platform that allows developers to provision compliant infrastructure (databases, clusters, storage) via code or a developer portal.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to DevOps engineers, fostering their professional growth and ensuring team success.

Architectural Governance: Design resilient, multi-region cloud architectures (AWS/Azure) that meet HIPAA, GDPR, and ISO 13485 standards.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and maintain a library of hardened, reusable Terraform or Pulumi modules that "bake in" security and logging by default.

Developer Experience (DevEx): Conduct regular "friction audits" to identify where developers are getting stuck in the pipeline and build automated solutions to remove those hurdles.

Security & Compliance Automation: Collaborate with security to integrate automated "Compliance as Code" checks, ensuring every deployment generates an immutable audit trail for FDA/MDR submissions.

Cost & Performance Strategy: Lead FinOps initiatives to optimize cloud spend and design for high availability and low-latency performance in clinical environments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Documentation: Partner with IT, Security, and Development teams to create shared solutions, and maintain thorough documentation of processes and tools.

Continuous Improvement and Technology Evaluation: Stay current with industry best practices, evaluate new technologies, and drive continuous improvement within the DevOps environment.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Systems Thinking: The ability to see how a small change in a Terraform module affects the entire regulatory posture of the product.

Developer Empathy: A genuine desire to make life easier for software engineers; they should view "The Platform" as their product. You are comfortable collaborating with developer through code so you can meet them where they are.

Communication: The ability to explain complex architectural trade-offs to both executive leadership and junior developers.

Growth Mindset: The ability to embrace learning and development for yourself and the team.

Travel Flexibility: Be available for travel to Hologic offices, training, conferences, and customer sites.

Autonomous Alignment: Work with minimal supervision while aligning with strategic intentions and corporate priorities.

Global Regulatory Environment: Ensure continuous awareness and adherence to regulatory requirements for our development environments and solutions.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience:

6+ years of experience with Azure (preferred), GCP, or AWS, specifically focused on IAM, VPC networking, and managed services (EKS, RDS, Lambda).

Skills & Certifications:

  • Orchestration Expert: Deep expertise in Kubernetes (designing and troubleshooting clusters, not just using them) and container security.
  • Automation Specialist: Advanced proficiency in CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins) and configuration management (Ansible/Terraform).
  • Security Mindset: Practical experience implementing "Zero Trust" architectures and managing secrets (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager).
  • Distributed Cloud Native Application Debugging: Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed applications at scale with complex data ingestion workflows that require the highest security to comply with a highly regulated environment.
  • Software Engineering Skillset: Ability to navigate and understand large code based in multiple languages like C#, C++, Python, and Java.
  • Collaboration as Code: Ability to make operational systems and processes easily repeatable; comfortable with complex scripting and building CLI applications in Python or similar languages.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Certifications: Relevant DevOps (e.g., Azure DevOps Engineer Expert), cloud, and security (e.g., CISSP/CCSP) certifications are strongly preferred.
