Job description

The automation engineer works as a part of an automation team to support and improve production in a fast-paced & dynamic manufacturing environment by:
  • Creating Intuitive Human-Machine-Interfaces (HMIs), dashboards, applications, using Ignition software
  • Designing, programming, and debugging Allen-Bradley PLC software
  • Programming and debugging Fanuc Industrial robots
  • Commissioning of automation & robotic cells
  • Setting up and tuning various control systems which include servo motors, hydraulic presses, VFDs, etc.
  • Manage and support automation projects that involve cross-functional teams such as manufacturing, sustaining and IT teams.
  • Lead discussions and define requirements for vendors and develop relationships with them.
  • Manage and lead the commissioning of new automated production cells.
  • Lead a team of automation engineers and technicians to Create intuitive human-machine interfaces, dashboards, reports, and manufacturing execution applications using the Ignition software platform.
  • Program and debug ladder logic, structure text and SFCt code on Allen-Bradley PLC.
  • Program and debug Fanuc Robots.
  • Set up and tune various actuations including VFDs, servo drives, hydraulic press, and pneumatics for smooth operations.
  • Oversee the training and development of automation engineers and technicians.
  • Support the training and development of maintenance/production staff, regarding automation.

BS degree in Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Mechatronics engineering, controls engineering, automation engineering, or relevant field/experience
Combination of coursework and experience totaling 2-3 years in:Programming using one of the following languages: MATLAB, C/C++, Python, Java, JavaScriptBuilding mechatronic systems composed of sensors, actuators, & microcontrollers
Ability to work in a team and willingness to be mentored in automation engineering
Effective communication and ability to independently work on an assigned task
Preferred QualificationsExperience in the following areas:Experience in a manufacturing environment working with automation & control system design, testing, validation
PLC controls & programming (Rockwell A-B, Siemens, Omron, etc.)
Controls hardware such as sensors, IO, VFDs, machine vision, pneumatic actuators, etc.
Industrial robots (FANUC, KUKA, etc.)
Industrial Communication Protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, OPC-UA, etc.)
Ability to read electrical, mechanical schematics, and P&ID drawings
Troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/software systems
Motivated to work in a dynamic & fast-paced manufacturing environment building & supporting automation control systems.
