Temporary Assembly Line Worker information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary assembly line worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Assembly Line Worker, you need good manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with basic manufacturing tools, conveyor systems, and safety protocols is typically required. Reliability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic are important soft skills for excelling in this fast-paced environment. These skills ensure consistent product quality, workplace safety, and efficient collaboration on the assembly line.

What is a temporary assembly line worker?

Temporary assembly line workers are individuals hired on a short-term basis to assist in the production process at manufacturing facilities. They typically perform repetitive tasks such as assembling products, operating machines, or packaging goods while following safety and quality standards. These roles are often filled to meet seasonal demand, cover employee absences, or support special projects. Temporary assembly line workers may work through staffing agencies or directly with employers, and assignments can vary in duration from a few days to several months.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary assembly line workers, and how can they be managed?

Temporary Assembly Line Workers often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new tasks, maintaining a consistent work pace, and standing for extended periods. Since assignments can vary, it's important to be flexible and receptive to on-the-job training. Building good communication with team members and supervisors helps address any uncertainties and ensures smooth workflow. Taking regular short breaks, following safety protocols, and asking questions when unsure can also help manage these challenges and contribute to a productive work environment.

Job Title: CNC Programmer

Job Description

This role focuses on programming, setting up, and operating 3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling machines to produce custom machined parts for a specialized catalogue. You will work as part of a small, close-knit team, following detailed instructions, job specifications, and blueprints to deliver high-quality, one-off aluminum components. The position also involves verifying dimensions with precision measuring tools and, where applicable, using SolidWorks to design models from technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate 3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling machines to produce custom machined parts.
  • Follow instructions, job specifications, and blueprints accurately to ensure parts meet required standards.
  • Use measuring instruments such as verniers and calipers to verify dimensions and ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Create and modify CNC programs, primarily using Mastercam, to support production needs.
  • Work with one-off custom aluminum parts, ensuring precise execution and adherence to design requirements.
  • Interpret and work from technical drawings and blueprints to design and machine components.
  • Set up milling machines, including tooling and workholding, to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Operate additional shop equipment such as bandsaws and drilling machines as required.
  • Perform general labour duties, including heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs, to support overall shop operations.
  • Assist and work in other departments when machining workloads are lower to support overall production.
  • Follow process documents and production workflows to complete orders on time and to specification.
  • Collaborate with team members to solve problems and meet customer needs through custom solutions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience programming and setting up CNC milling machines, including 3-axis and 4-axis mills.
  • CNC programming experience with Mastercam, with 2–3 years of programming experience noted.
  • At least 3 years of experience operating CNC mills.
  • Hands-on experience working with aluminum, particularly in one-off custom machining applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as verniers and calipers to verify dimensions.
  • Experience working with Fanuc controls on CNC milling machines.
  • Practical experience in production machining environments, including setup and operation.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting up to 50 lbs as part of daily duties.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following instructions and process documents accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • SolidWorks experience for designing models from technical drawings.
  • ERP system experience to support production and workflow management.
  • Bandsaw operation experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.
  • Drilling machine operation experience as part of general shop duties.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes related to custom cable assemblies, injection molding, or over-molding is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team in a production setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to collaborate with customers and internal teams to meet unique requirements.

Why Work Here?

You will join a close-knit team with supportive and effective leadership, where collaboration and mentorship are part of daily work. The crew is well-tenured and has strong training capacity, giving you the opportunity to learn, grow, and refine your skills in a stable environment. The workflow is consistent, with projects already on the books, providing reliable work and the chance to contribute to a variety of custom and technically interesting projects.
