Job description

Registered Nurse

Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a Registered Nurse at Hannah Beardsley Middle School. This position is temporary and will end May 22, 2026. This position provides direct nursing services to students and staff members to maximize health and wellness in the school community. All duties are performed in accordance with district/ state Board of Education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice. The ideal candidate will:

  • Provide direct professional nursing services: first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates
  • Administer medication and treatment with appropriate documentation
  • Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions and the related archival responsibilities
  • Perform mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing (requires state credentials as a screener)
  • Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/ neglect as a mandated reporter
  • Maintain communication with the certificated school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/ guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of students
  • Contact parents regarding student absences, illness or injuries
  • Monitor communicable diseases and do follow-up contact as needed under the guidance of the Certificated School Nurse
  • Maintain student attendance records and prepare reports as directed
  • Complete accident/ incident reports for students and staff
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
  • Maintain a daily log of student/ staff visits and documentation on individual health records
  • Maintain the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies
  • Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
  • Perform other health or school-related work as required

Skills and experience required:

  • Education: Currently registered in State of Illinois, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program completion, Illinois Certification as a Vision & Hearing Technician (as soon as accepted in the state certification class)
  • Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology
  • Active RN License
  • Some experience in a hospital setting or similar acute care setting is preferable
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws

Essential functions:

  • Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, effectively communicating with parents and students, articulation, creativity, organizational skills, confidentiality, maintain a positive attitude and cooperativeness.
  • Have the ability to work independently and manage time commitments.
  • Transportation required. Strong identity with professional nursing standards and ethics.
