This position will serve as a RN Supervisor A in the 64-bed Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, a level 1 care facility.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:
Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Assumes shift responsibility for patient assignments and care of patients for assigned unit.
  • Provides nursing care and utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the provision of direct patient care to Inmates.
  • Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conducts nursing assessments via nursing rounds and communicates with the provider regarding the patient's condition to ensure a timely and accurate disposition.
  • Initiates and reviews nursing plan of care for all patients and ensures that treatments and therapies specified in the plans are carried out.
  • Receives health care practitioner's instructions regarding patient care and ensure that orders are transmitted to other units as needed.

Work Environment:
  • Will work with inmates
  • Will supervise Registered Nurses (RN's) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN's)

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $39.12 per hour.
This position also offers premium pay: A rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.
