Key responsibilities

  • Assist in designing planner projects, including covers, interior pages, packaging, and collateral.

  • Create print-ready files, review proofs, and prepare files for printing and upload.

  • Capture and edit product photos and videos for listings, social media, and brand content.

Job description

Are you a creative self-starter with a love of paper goods and a sharp eye for detail? bloom is looking for a Graphic Designer to join our design team and help bring our planners, calendars, and other products to life — from first sketch to print-ready file.

As a designer for bloom, you'll be responsible for assisting our Production Manager and Lead Designer in the design of planner projects such as cover design, interior calendar pages, other bloom products, packaging, social media images, bloom collateral, and other projects as assigned. You'll also join meetings with our design team to talk through work in progress. This is a full-time, in-office position at our Newark, Delaware studio.

Work Arrangement and Compensation

  • This position is based at our Newark, DE office. The first 90 days are fully on-site to support onboarding and hands-on work with proofs, samples, and vendors. After that, a partial hybrid schedule is available
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience

Soft Skills

The ideal person for this position:

  • Creative, organized, and detail-oriented — the kind of person who catches a problem before a file goes to press
  • Proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Comfortable with print production basics — bleed, trim, and CMYK/Pantone color — or ready to learn them fast
  • Bonus points for Procreate, Canva, Premiere, iMovie, illustration/hand lettering, packaging experience, or photography/video skills
  • Able to juggle multiple projects with excellent time management
  • Motivated, hardworking, and willing to learn
  • Open to feedback and comfortable taking direction

Result Statement:

A successful Graphic Designer will:

  • Get projects done efficiently, accurately, and on deadline
  • Build strong knowledge of bloom's software and file-building procedures
  • Contribute ideas and feedback as an active member of the design team
  • Build and save files correctly — in the right software, on the server, and print-ready for upload or the printer
  • Be proactive, dependable, and willing to help wherever needed

HOW THIS ROLE WORKS

The responsibilities below span bloom's full product season — from concept, to upload, to launch. You'll move through them in phases as each product moves through that path, not handle all of them at once.

DESIGN & PRODUCT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Update calendar pages for all planners, desk calendars, hanging calendars, and more
  • Design and lay out new projects: planners, desk easels, planning pads, accessories, and other products
  • Design freebie Friday printables and update digital planners for Etsy and our website
  • Create new product ideas and digital downloads, and collaborate with Production Manager on new listing templates for our website and Amazon
  • Build and update mockups — covers, interiors, and smart mockups — for our catalog, website, and more
  • Help Lead Designer convert sticker packs to digital files, and contribute illustrations or color variations for potential sticker packs
  • Contribute to potential cover designs and update the bloom catalog every calendar and academic year
  • Update bloom collateral as needed

PRINT PRODUCTION

  • Build print-ready files with correct trim, bleed, and safe zones for each project
  • Work with CMYK and Pantone color, and know when to use RGB vs. CMYK vs. PMS
  • Preflight files — fonts, resolution, and transparency — before they go to the printer
  • Review printer proofs and give approval or send revisions
  • Proof final PDF files from the printer for accuracy, and upload approved files via Dropbox, WeTransfer, or OneDrive
  • Create product barcode labels and carton labels for the printer

PHOTO, VIDEO & DIGITAL

  • Shoot product photos (Canon camera or iPhone) and edit them for listing images
  • Take on misc. photo requests as needed for website, emails, and more
  • Shoot and edit product videos for enhanced brand content (EBC) on our website and Amazon
  • Work with our Amazon team on any EBC image requests for Amazon
  • Turn new cover artwork into phone and desktop wallpapers for website freebies
  • Update smart mockup GIFs of new phone/desktop wallpapers for social media and email

AS NEEDED:

  • Help with email template designs
  • Collaborate with other artists for our Artist Submission Program and collaborations lines
  • Support team with intern needs throughout the year
