Job description

At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That's where you come in!

We are looking for someone who is always the go-to for information in any fast-paced production environment. Someone who tackles roadblocks with positivity and persistence-and has a passion for tabletop games and printed collectibles. Do you have business-level Japanese-language proficiency and strong communication in both Japanese and English, plus a deep understanding of Japanese business culture and entertainment? If so, join us as an EN/JP Bilingual Producer, Game Production focused on the typesetting pipeline for Magic: The Gathering.

This key role will work with external licensors based in Japan, and with internal production teams within the Magic studio. You'll own schedules and asset details, turn complex feedback into crystal-clear action items across simultaneous moving projects, and build tools and resources that keep our Wizards at full mana. Bonus life points for legendary spreadsheet abilities!

What You'll Do:

This position has three primary areas of concentration: Primary producer for JP interfacing for JP-first sets as well as the production editing and creative technology groups, and secondary support for the card production group overall all within the Game Production org.

  • Connect with External Partners: This position is the primary point of contact between Game Production and our Japanese IP partners. You will compile, review, and deliver written presentations, production review files, and supporting materials in EN and JP for IP partners. You'll transform partner requests and feedback (often conveyed in JP via multiple channels) into documented EN action items for the correct teams.
  • Facilitate Tool Development: Magic is complex and ever-evolving, and so are the tools we use to make it. You'll intake tech requests and ensure delivery by the time they're needed, coordinating between our internal tech team as well as other tech teams across Wizards. You'll organize user acceptance testing, assist with documentation, and provide regular reports about what's rolling out. As you grow, we'll look to you to help develop expanded tools to support Game Production.
  • Empower Game Production: Using Smartsheet, Excel, and Microsoft Teams, you'll enable all of Game Production to deliver high-quality assets by established deadlines. You'll build and maintain project timelines and projections, track metrics, and surface risks and challenges. You'll be expected to proactively remove blockers, flag scope shifts, and find the details necessary to maintain project momentum.
What You'll Bring:
  • Production Experience: 3+ years in games/entertainment, technology, licensing/franchise work or high-output print production roles, running multiple overlapping projects and schedules. Skilled in Smartsheet, Excel, Jira, Confluence, Acrobat, PowerPoint, and print or digital asset pipelines.
  • English & Japanese Fluency: Professional proficiency in English speaking and writing, along with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand Japanese at a working professional level (N3 or higher). A love of Japanese culture and intellectual properties.
  • Problem Solving & Flexibility: Lead tool testing, track metrics, gather feedback, and develop process improvements in an evolving landscape. Pivot quickly when needed and focus on minimizing manual updates for repeatable processes.
  • Collaborative Drive: Self-motivated partnership champion who removes blockers, builds trust, holds partners accountable and is a cross-functional ally to support Magic and those who make it.
  • Organized Communication: Organize high volumes of detailed information in multiple formats (files, information, timelines, process) and communicate it clearly, understanding the nuance needed to reach different audiences. Listen with both attention to detail and an understanding of the big picture. Identify connections and close communication gaps.
Nice to Have:
  • Understanding of Magic: The Gathering gameplay and terminology
  • Experience working in a Japanese business environment.
  • Familiarity with file types and storage methods, including digital asset management
  • Experience participating in software rollout/release and Jira ticket lifecycle
  • Experience with task automation (renaming batches of files, parsing data exports, generating reports)
  • Familiarity with Miro, Esko WebCenter, Claris FileMaker, Adobe Creative Suite
Additional Details:
Please note that this is a temporary assignment providing services to Wizards through an external staffing agency. If you are selected for this assignment, you will be employed by Workwell as a W2 employee and will not be an employee of Wizards.

  • Employment Type: Contingent Worker
