Job description

Overview
The Agency of Transportation (AOT) is working to locate and inspect our culverts and stormwater collection systems. This Technician position will use mobile GIS applications and digital plans to inspect and map drainage features/structures such as small culverts, drop inlets and catch basins on VTrans maintained roadways. This is a temporary position that will work up to 40 hours per week for up to seven months.
Who May Apply
This position, AOT Technician I - Temporary (Job Requisition #55013), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in office, laboratory, and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded, and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Out of state travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field.
OR
High school graduation or equivalent AND three (3) years of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.
Special Requirements
Some positions in this job class may require possession of a valid driver's license.
