GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Kirkwood Community College's Industrial Technologies Department is seeking a part-time instructor for WEL-274 SMAW I (3 credit hours) and WEL-275 SMAW II (3 credit hours). A successful candidate will have at least three years of welding experience, including proficiency in SMAW welding processes, blueprint interpretation, welding safety, metal preparation, weld inspection, and the use of common welding equipment and tools. Candidates should be self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to effectively communicate technical concepts while providing hands-on instruction in a laboratory environment. A commitment to student success, workplace safety, and preparing students for careers in the welding industry is essential.

Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions scheduled intermittently based on institutional need. Adjuncts are not guaranteed work in any semester and are notified of course assignments prior to each term as courses become available.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide face-to-face instruction in discipline
  • Teach using the department's established curriculum, syllabus, and assessments while collaborating with faculty to maintain consistency across course sections.
  • Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on a regular basis.
  • Utilize the Kirkwood Learning Management System to post course syllabi and relevant documents and provide access to the student grade book.
  • Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 6000 hours of employment in welding, fabrication, or a closely related field; OR
  • An associate's degree in welding technology or related field and 3000 hours of employment in welding, fabrication, or a closely related field; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in welding, engineering technology, industrial technology, or a related field with at least 12 credit hours of welding-related coursework.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current AWS certifications in SMAW
  • Previous experience in face-to-face instruction at a community college.
  • Demonstrated success working with ESL students and supporting diverse learning needs.
  • Prior use of a learning management system.
