Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
This Lab Technician role focuses on supporting quality control and chemical analysis activities in a production environment, ensuring that salt products meet strict purity and safety standards. You will perform wet chemistry testing, monitor chlorine levels, grade salt stockpiles, and accurately document all results while working both independently and in partnership with other lab technicians on shift.
Responsibilities
- Monitor chlorine levels and record measurements accurately.
- Perform daily grading and visual inspection of salt stockpiles.
- Conduct chemical analysis and wet chemistry testing on product samples.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to established formulas and procedures.
- Run daily samples and perform lab testing to verify product quality and purity.
- Carry out titration and other standard laboratory techniques as required.
- Perform quality control inspections of products coming off the production line, including pulling samples and testing them during and after production.
- Document all testing, inspections, and results clearly and accurately on paper and in electronic systems to maintain full traceability of products and samples.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in the laboratory.
- Partner with other lab technicians on shift to coordinate testing and share information.
- Transport product samples between the mill and the satellite lab building, including carrying bags of salt as needed.
- Follow all established procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards while working independently after training is completed.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience working in a laboratory setting (excluding medical laboratories).
- Hands-on experience with wet chemistry and chemical analysis.
- Experience with quality control, quality assurance, or quality inspection in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to perform lab testing, including preparation of chemical solutions according to formulas and running daily samples.
- Proficiency with titration and standard lab analysis techniques.
- Ability to accurately complete data entry and maintain clear documentation both on paper and electronically.
- Capability to lift approximately 40 pounds on a daily basis.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new procedures reliably.
- Strong soft skills, including communication, reliability, and attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience conducting quality analysis or lab analysis in a production environment.
- Experience in quality control of products coming off a production line, including pulling and testing samples.
- Comfort working independently after training is completed.
- Interest in long-term opportunities, with potential to convert to a direct role based on performance.
Work Environment
This role is based in a salt mine and production environment, which is humid, dirty, and physically demanding. You will work in a satellite laboratory building separate from the mill and will frequently transport samples between the mill and the lab, including carrying bags of salt and going up and down approximately three flights of stairs multiple times per day or week. The position involves significant standing, walking, lifting, and stair climbing. Training lasts up to 4 weeks depending on how quickly you learn the processes. The training schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with work every other Saturday. After training, you will often work independently in the lab. The company offers 80 hours of paid time off and an additional 6 days of holiday pay. Holiday pay applies to those not scheduled to work on the holiday; those scheduled to work on holidays receive normal pay for those days. A uniform is provided a few weeks after you start. During training, the dress code requires jeans, steel-toe boots, and a T-shirt with sleeves (no short sleeves).

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
