Job description

Position Overview:

Savannah Distributing Company, a family-owned business and leader in the beverage distribution industry, is seeking a dependable and motivated Relief Route Account Manager to support our fast-paced Savannah market. The Relief Route Account Manager is responsible for temporarily covering established sales routes during vacations, leaves of absence, open territories, or high-volume periods. This role ensures continuity in customer service, sales growth, merchandising standards, and supplier execution across assigned accounts. This position requires adaptability, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to quickly step into multiple territories while protecting company revenue and upholding our core values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Territory Coverage and Account Management

    • Cover assigned routes during scheduled and unscheduled absences

    • Maintain established service frequency for all accounts

    • Review and execute account-specific sales plans

    • Maintain consistent communication with Sales Managers regarding territory updates

    • Protect existing revenue and identify incremental sales opportunities

  • Sales Execution

    • Execute sales strategies and promotional programming

    • Sell in new products, displays, and supplier initiatives

    • Meet or exceed sales objectives during coverage periods

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within assigned territory

  • Merchandising and Standards

    • Ensure proper product rotation and freshness

    • Build and maintain displays according to supplier and company standards

    • Maintain pricing accuracy and POS placement

    • Monitor and immediately address out-of-stocks

    • Ensure shelf conditions meet company expectations

  • Relationship Management

    • Maintain professional and consistent communication with account owners and managers

    • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally

    • Protect long-term customer relationships during temporary coverage

    • Represent Savannah Distributing Company in a professional manner at all times

  • Reporting and Communication

    • Document account updates and key issues for the returning Account Manager

    • Report competitive activity and market trends

    • Track and submit required sales reporting in a timely manner

    • Provide detailed transition notes at the end of coverage assignments


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education:

  • High School degree or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 2+ years sales experience preferred (industry experience preferred)

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong time management skills

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Adaptable and comfortable learning new territories quickly

  • Team-oriented mindset with a strong work ethic

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and transportation

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen



WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position located in the office and field environment. Must be able to work in a team-oriented, professional and fast-paced environment. Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes. Be able to reach, bend, stoop, kneel and squat frequently with the ability to lift, push and pull 50 + pounds regularly
