Job description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Special Projects (Subs) Branch (Code 105.38) of the Radiological Monitoring Division (C105.3), of the Radiological Control Office (Code 105) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.Qualifications:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience demonstrating extensive technical knowledge of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Systems, particularly as they pertain to overhaul and refueling operations.
  • Experience demonstrating expertise in radiological control regulations, standards, and methods-including proficiency with NAVSEA 389 0288, OSHA, NAVSEA, DOD, SECNAV, OPNAV, and local shipyard safety and security requirements.
  • Experience controlling personnel exposure to ionizing radiation, preventing radioactive contamination, and protecting the public in nuclear environments.
  • Experience demonstrating managerial acumen, effectively overseeing a radiological monitoring program of comparable complexity and scope to the Radiological Monitoring Division, including the supervision of multiple subordinates, coordinating workloads across multiple shifts and dispersed shipyard and shipboard locations, and administering personnel, equipment, and procedures.
  • Experience demonstrating excel in program and administrative management, from preparing justifications for resource allocations and evaluating new monitoring equipment, developing internal procedures, assigning, and balancing work among supervisors, and preparing responses to audits, surveillance findings, and drill results.
  • Experience applying technical problem-solving skills are essential for resolving issues beyond subordinate capacity and serving as a liaison with division leadership.
  • Experience demonstrating excellent communication and representation abilities, including preparing and reviewing technical reports, representing the division in meetings and conferences, and seamlessly coordinating with Production Planning, ship's force, and Nuclear Engineering.
