QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Delaware certification as a Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities (Grades K-12); Required AND Secondary ELA Teacher (Grades 9-12; Valid in Grades 6-8 in a middle level school) Certification; Required
  • Satisfactory Child Protection Registry
  • Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skillsย and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
  • The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
  • Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.
  • The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and teach lesson plans, aid students in understandingย ELA curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives and ensure that regular classroom routines are followed in accordance with school guidelines.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in secondary English Language Arts and promotes creative thinking and analysis.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in inclusive classroom settings, ensuring access to the curriculum and participation in service learning experiences.
  • Facilitate small group instruction and intervention sessions to address specific learning needs and remediate skill deficits for students with disabilities.
  • Maintain an orderly and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning, enforcing school rules and classroom behavior expectations consistently.
  • Maintain communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff as needed.
  • Ensure implementation of IEP services in accordance with IDEA and Delaware regulations.
  • Modify and adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the unique learning needs and goals outlined in each student's IEP.
  • Monitor student progress, adjust instructional strategies as needed, and document student achievements and challenges in alignment with IEP objectives.
  • Use data-driven assessments and progress monitoring tools to identify areas of strength and areas for growth and tailor instructional activities to individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with and communicate regularly with parents/guardians to develop partnerships that support student learning and well-being, including participation in IEP meetings, goal-setting conferences, and workshops on special education topics.
  • Collect, analyze, and report progress monitoring data toward annual IEP goals and objectives and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, progress reports, and IEP documentation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as IEP case manager for assigned students, including writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); coordinating team input; facilitating meetings; and ensuring implementation and compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and student support planning sessions to develop comprehensive plans for addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to support students in achieving academic, social, and behavioral goals.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
  • Practice sound interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and families.
  • Collaborate with related service providers (OT, PT, SLP, School Psychologist, etc.) to support integrated programming and student progress.
  • Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested.
  • Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law.
  • Carefully plan for substitute teachers when unable to attend school and relate lessons to the state content standards in the core content areas as well as in specific content area.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the school administration.
  • The teacher must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is required to fluently speak and understand English.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
  • While performing the duties of this job, expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
