Sales Manager - Injection Molding & New Business Development

Downers Grove, IL โ€ข On-site

Job description

A well-established U.S. precision manufacturer is hiring a Sales Manager to drive new customer acquisition across plastic injection molding, insert molding, overmolding, tooling, assembly, and engineered-component solutions. This company brings plastic molding, precision metal stamping, tooling, engineering support, and assembly together within one manufacturing platform. Customers include OEMs, Tier suppliers, contract manufacturers, EMS providers, product developers, and engineering teams seeking a dependable domestic partner for complex, built-to-print components.

THE OPPORTUNITY: This is a builderโ€™s role for a proven new-business hunter. You will open doors, secure qualified first meetings, uncover technical opportunities, and build a pipeline of net-new customers. The commercial runway is broad: you can pursue attractive opportunities across multiple industries and introduce complementary manufacturing capabilities when they create a stronger customer solution. Existing accounts and day-to-day customer service are handled by the current team, allowing you to focus on prospecting, opportunity development, and new-logo wins. Selected dormant accounts may also be assigned where meaningful growth potential exists. This is a senior individual-contributor role. You will operate with considerable independence while receiving support from Engineering, Estimating, Tooling, Operations, Quality, and Customer Service.

Responsibilities

  • Build a focused target-account plan across attractive OEM and engineered-product markets.
  • Generate qualified first meetings through direct outreach, industry relationships, referrals, trade events, and disciplined account development.
  • Identify applications suited for injection molding, insert molding, overmolding, metal-to-plastic integration, tooling, assembly, and secondary operations.
  • Engage purchasing, engineering, sourcing, operations, and executive decision-makers.
  • Advance opportunities from initial discovery through RFQ, technical review, quotation, negotiation, and award.
  • Partner with engineering and estimating teams to determine technical fit, manufacturability, tooling requirements, pricing, and commercial viability.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline with clear opportunity values, stakeholders, timing, risks, probabilities, and next steps.
  • Cross-sell complementary metal stamping, roll forming, tooling, fabrication, and assembly capabilities when appropriate.
  • Reengage selected dormant accounts with credible new-program potential.
  • Pursue profitable, well-qualified opportunities that align with the organizationโ€™s manufacturing strengths.

Qualifications

Direct experience selling plastic injection molding, insert molding, overmolding, tooling, engineered plastic components, or related contract-manufacturing services. Experience with both plastic molding and metal stamping is highly valued but not required. The ability to understand customer drawings, applications, materials, tolerances, tooling considerations, and design-for-manufacturability discussions. Strong CRM, pipeline-management, and forecasting discipline. Existing OEM or Tier supplier relationships are valuable.
