GIS/Database Technician
Pay Rate: 24.75
Geotemps, Inc. is looking for a Database Technician who will organize, scan, catalog, georeferenced, and perform QA/QC on thousands of Exploration reports, drill logs, data tables. And maps. The Technician will also be required to coordinate shipments to and from mine sites, or vendors/sources as applicable, of material that needs to be scanned and cataloged.
Essential Functions
  • Scans, organizes and catalogs Exploration archives house at the archive library. Cataloging in the online library database (KOHA), organizing physical files as well as digital files in SharePoint. Performs QA/QC of data.
  • Performs searches for technical and historical data using KOHA, File Trail, or the Port of Tucson Archive Library. Gather, digitize, and distribute data upon request.
  • Georeferenced and published scanned maps and other digital files as requested using ArcPro. Adding appropriate metadata to understand the context of data.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external clients. Coordinates the deliveries of materials to scan with appropriate staff and communicates with clients about where files will be stored digitally & physically.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Must have at least 1 year experience within a mining industry
  • Demonstrated experience working with Archives.
  • Knowledge of Porphyry copper deposits and general exploration activities. Strong cartographic understanding. Ability to catalog mixed materials (maps, photos, reports, etc.) in a library tracking system. Experience using Google Earth Pro or other open-source mapping programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Certificate in Geosciences, Geography, or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with ArcPro, ArcMap, QGIS, Google Earth Pro, or other related mapping software preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing, or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel–toed boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screen (pre-employment and random).
