Job description

Job Description Summary:

Fenwick is seeking a temporary Financial Application Developer who will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support for the Firm's financial applications and related software. This position bridges the functional and technical aspects of the Firm's financial systems and contributes to ongoing modernization efforts, including the thoughtful use of automation and emerging AI capabilities. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and implementing custom solutions; supporting packaged financial systems; maintaining database-level integrity; and assisting end users across the Firm. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical thinking and development skills with practical mindset for improving processes through technology, including familiarity with automation and AI-enhanced tools. Candidate should also display solid customer service and troubleshooting capabilities gained in a professional services or law firm environment.
This position is a full-time exempt role and can be based in any of our U.S. office locations and some remote locations. The estimated duration for this temporary assignment is 12 months.

Job Description:

  • Provide responsive and effective support for the Firm's financial applications, including both customized and commercial offtheshelf systems.
  • Develop application components including user interfaces, middletier objects, and stored procedures that enhance business processes and system functionality.
  • Support the Firm's financial technology ecosystem, addressing software performance, integrations, and workflow improvements.
  • Deliver Microsoft Windows desktop support and resolve applicationrelated issues for end users.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement new applications and solutions to meet firm and departmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with business process owners to gather, analyze, and document technical and functional requirements.
  • Provide databaselevel support, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and SQL development.
  • Develop integrations and automate workflows using APIs, data exchange tools, AI services and intelligent automation tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation or AI-enabled tools where appropriate.
  • Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and testing processes.
  • Proactively recommend and implement system and process improvements.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for development, support, and system changes.
  • Ensure strong collaboration and positive working relationships across the Finance Department and other internal teams.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of Firm and client financial data, including appropriate use of AI tools.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in application development, including user interface design, middletier logic, and database stored procedures.
    • Strong understanding of programming logic, data structures, workflows, system integrations.
    • Experience with SQL querying, database support and troubleshooting.
    • Strong experience in Microsoft Windows desktop and application support
    • Familiarity with APIs and integration techniques.
    • Experience with software implementations and upgrades.
    • Understanding of application testing, deployment, and documentation principles.
    • Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and tools.
    • Comfortable working with AI tools and a curiosity to continuously learn and adopt new ways of working as technology evolves.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of related experience supporting and developing financial applications, preferably within a law firm or similar professional services environment.

The anticipated range for this position is:

$115,000 - $172,750

Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance. Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
