Job description

Job Title: 2nd Shift Machine Operator

Job Description

Set-up, adjust, and operate mills and lathes to perform progressive machining operations on a variety of standardized work requiring close tolerances and finish requirements. The role involves working with standard turning and planing machines, boring and drilling machines, grinders, and more. While speeds, feeds, operational sequences, and tooling are generally prescribed, the Machinist may select or vary them to accommodate materials, conditions, or variations in standard procedures. Responsibilities also include grinding tools and setting up machines for operation by others. The work is based on drawings, specifications, and job layouts, utilizing a variety of precision measuring instruments. Knowledge of shop practices and machining fundamentals is essential, acquired through vocational training and experience. The work will be subject to process and final inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up, adjust, and operate mills and lathes.
  • Perform progressive machining operations on standardized work with close tolerances and finish requirements.
  • Operate standard turning and planing machines, boring and drilling machines, grinders, etc.
  • Select or vary speeds, feeds, operational sequences, and tooling to compensate for materials, conditions, or variations.
  • Grind tools and set-up machines for operation by others.
  • Work from drawings, specifications, and job layouts.
