Systems Administrator (VMS Admin)

Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of extension or hire

Location: Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP)

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Additional Requirement: Available after hours / On Call


Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Systems Administrator (VMS Admin) to support the implementation, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of an enterprise Security Surveillance Platform, including Genetec Video Management System (VMS), AXIS Camera Solutions, and supporting infrastructure.

The selected professional will work onsite and collaborate with technology, networking, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and security teams to ensure the reliability and performance of the video surveillance environment.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, update, maintain, and troubleshoot the Genetec Video Management System.
  • Manage VMS architecture, including Directory, Archiver, Media Gateway, and failover components.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and storage utilization.
  • Administer, configure, update, maintain, and troubleshoot AXIS camera solutions.
  • Provide basic maintenance and troubleshooting for VMS infrastructure components.
  • Provide technical assistance and expertise for security surveillance projects.
  • Collaborate with IT teams on servers, networking, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Provide VMS system training to various departments and operational teams.
  • Write and maintain related technical documentation.
  • Maintain user roles, permissions, and audit tracking.
  • Be available for after-hours and on-call support.
  • Perform related duties as directed.


Mandatory Skills

  1. B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, OR a High School Diploma with a minimum of 4 years of demonstrated experience working in an enterprise infrastructure environment.
  2. Two (2) years administering Genetec Security Center Enterprise or other CCTV/VMS applications such as Milestone or ExacqVision.
  3. Two (2) years administering AXIS CCTV surveillance cameras or comparable solutions such as Pelco or Bosch.
  4. Two (2) years maintaining and troubleshooting VMS-related infrastructure.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience with VMS-related infrastructure, including:
  • Cisco/Dell switches
  • Dell NAS storage
  • Dell PowerEdge servers
  • Windows Server 2019/2022
  • VMware
  • Microsoft SQL databases
  • Experience integrating cameras, encoders, access control, analytics, and other security systems into VMS platforms.
  • Knowledge of video streaming, encryption, recording, and retention best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting VMS applications, video loss, network connectivity, and performance issues.
  • Working knowledge of scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell and Python.
  • Familiarity with enterprise authentication and networking protocols related to VMS deployments.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.

  • AXIS Certified Professional
