Summary:

Under the direction of PST Supervisors, the Temporary Administrative Calltaker is responsible for receiving, prioritizing, and processing non-emergency calls and administrative requests for service. This position supports public safety operations by ensuring accurate data collection, proper routing of calls, and timely documentation within agency systems.


This is a temporary position established to support operational needs, staffing shortages, special projects, or increased call volume. Employment in this role is limited in duration and does not guarantee continued or permanent employment.


Essential Job Functions:

The following functions are essential as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. An employee must be able to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Must be able to receive, process, and document non-emergency and administrative calls using a multi-line telecommunications system while obtaining accurate, complete, and timely information from callers.
  • Must be able to determine the nature of calls and appropriately route or refer requests to the correct agency, department, or personnel in accordance with established procedures.
  • Must be able to enter and update calls for service and related information into Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) or other records systems with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple tasks-including call-taking, data entry, and system navigation-while maintaining accuracy and composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to effectively operate multiple computer systems and office technologies to obtain, verify, and document information.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally with callers, including those who may be upset, confused, or under stress.
  • Must be able to recognize when a non-emergency call requires escalation and take appropriate action in accordance with policy.
  • Must be able to perform all duties in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as agency policies and procedures, including confidentiality and CJIS requirements.
  • Must be able to maintain situational awareness and attention to detail while handling a high volume of calls and information.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively within a team environment, follow direction, and participate in training and quality improvement processes.
  • Must be able to work assigned schedules, including weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and overtime as required to support operational needs during the temporary assignment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must successfully pass a national fingerprint-based criminal history record check in accordance with CJIS requirements and maintain eligibility for continued access to criminal justice information systems as a condition of employment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license


Pre-Employment Screening Requirements

As a condition of employment, the candidate must successfully complete and pass all required pre-employment evaluations, including:


  • A pre-employment drug screening in accordance with VRECC policy


Failure to successfully complete any required pre-employment screening shall result in disqualification from the hiring process or withdrawal of a conditional offer of employment.


Certification and Training Requirements

As a condition of continued employment during the temporary assignment, the employee must successfully complete and maintain the following training requirements:


  • Agency-approved call handling and administrative procedures training
  • CJIS security awareness training and compliance requirements
  • Any additional training required by agency policy


Failure to obtain or maintain required training may result in termination of the temporary assignment.
