Job description

Hexcel is currently seeking a Horizontal Sawyer for our Casa Grande, AZ, USA location. Start rate: $27.84 Per Hour during the New Hire Orientation Period - normally 90 calendar days, then increases to $30.02 Per Hour. This position pays a $1.75 per hour shift premium and is on our "T3" 2x2x5x5 shift: Monday, Thursday, and Friday (Week 1) 7:00PM to 7:00AM; and Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Week 2) 7:00PM to 7:00AM. Note that the workday on this shift is designated by the day the shift ends. Overtime is often required.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Processes core through the horizontal saws to cut core into the thickness required by the customer specifications.
  • Operates and maintains each of the horizontal saws. Responsible for general setups, especially the spinner block assembly and associated parts.
  • Verifies cell count and dimensions.
  • Operates saws using variable saw speeds and setups to accomplish the required T/tolerance and surface quality for each product.
  • Evaluates visual quality of material to ensure meets specifications as per the routing and the QI304-560.
  • Records and tracks T thickness, tolerance, and density using the SPC online computer program.
  • Tracks saw performance against number of jobs required. Reports material usage and movement.
  • Assists in various operations such as trimming, sawing, blowout, wash-dry, and rework.
  • Performs duties of "water spider" when rotated into these duties. These duties (essential to support the utilization of the saws) include blade and material changeovers, delivery of coupons to QA, replenishing expendable materials, and related duties.
  • Performs duties of "skinsticker" when rotated into these duties. These duties (essential to support the utilization of the saws) include scheduling all non-metallic core through the appropriate saws based on the saw capabilities and customer start date and processing all blocks and stubs through block trim, color-code, and skinstick as indicated by the saw routing.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience required, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Must be proficient in use of tape measure and ruler.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer data entry function required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
