Job description

  • Provide clinical leadership for delivery of computational pathology laboratory services and products
  • Provide clinical oversight of Anatomic Pathology and Molecular Pathology laboratory operations
  • Provide clinical signout and final diagnostic interpretation for molecular and/or anatomic pathology cases
  • Define internal strategy for computational pathology service development
  • Co-lead computational pathology product development with Technology and Product Development teams
  • Provide clinical input on use cases, annotation strategy, validation study design, regulatory submissions, software workflows, and launch readiness
  • Contribute to manuscripts and conference posters for computational pathology products
  • Explore partnerships expanding computational and molecular pathology services
  • Ensure testing systems provide quality services across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
  • Act as temporary Laboratory Director in the Laboratory Director's absence
  • Delegate technical, supervisory, clinical consultation, and testing responsibilities to qualified employees
  • Perform administrative duties for laboratory leadership and testing personnel
  • Ensure laboratory duties, onsite supervision, quality control, proficiency testing, personnel competency, safety, procedures, and regulatory requirements are fulfilled
  • Review standard operating procedures biennially and oversee corrective actions for unacceptable performance
  • Travel approximately 15% and adjust hours based on operational needs
Requirements
  • Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in California; OR meet an alternative listed laboratory-director qualification
  • Certification in Anatomic or Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or equivalent qualifications; OR at least one year of laboratory training during medical residency; OR at least two years directing or supervising high-complexity testing; OR prior industry experience at a diagnostics, biotech, or digital health company
  • Experience with whole-slide imaging platforms, image analysis software, or validation of AI/ML-based algorithms
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations in pathology, oncology, or computational pathology
  • Experience contributing to regulatory submissions, including 510(k), PMA, or LDT validation packages
  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing and liquid biopsy testing
  • Earned doctoral degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution and certification by an HHS-approved board, or satisfy the stated grandfathered laboratory-director qualifications
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in 42 CFR 493.1443
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in the College of American Pathologists Checklist
  • Demonstrated curiosity, sound judgment, and ability to critically evaluate and responsibly use AI-enabled tools under company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Background screening including criminal history is required
  • Ability to travel approximately 15%
  • Ability to work varying hours and days based on operational needs
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work around laboratory hazards, blood specimens, fumes, noise, and biohazard materials
