Department Summary

The Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE) facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The institute fosters a collegial and stimulating intellectual environment for world-class research in molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics, evolution of development, and microbial, population, community, and ecosystems ecology.

Position Summary

IE at the University of Oregon is soliciting applications for its open applicant pool. Positions are limited duration, funding contingent post-doctoral or research appointments that are part-time or short-term, with contracts not to exceed one year, with the possibility of renewal up to a total of three years depending on program needs, funding, and performance. Successful candidates will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
Examples of potential positions include research assistants, scientists, engineers, or research associates. Postdoctoral scholars will also be considered for positions providing additional training and will have a formal mentor plan. Research assistants, engineers, and scientists conduct research under the direction of a principal investigator; postdoctoral researchers conduct research under the direction of a faculty member for the purpose of acquiring research training; research associates conduct research with only general guidance.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the rank of Research Assistant:
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field
To qualify for the rank of Research Scientist:
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field
Technical skills and experience relevant to position needs
To qualify for the rank of Research Associate or Postdoctoral Scholar:
PhD in biology or related field

Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
