Job description

WPIX is home to NY Nightcap, Friday Night Mets games, Yankees Nation and powers sports programming on our CTV channel PIX11+. The sports department is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Sports Department Intern to join PIX11 in New York City. This internship is designed for someone interested in learning the fast-paced world of sports television production and gaining hands-on experience in a live newsroom environment.

The Sports Production Intern will support the sports team in the daily development and execution of sports content across broadcast and digital platforms. This role offers exposure to story development, show planning, research, guest preparation, and production coordination. The ideal candidate is organized, curious, collaborative, and eager to learn about sports storytelling in a professional television setting.

Responsibilities:
Assist producers and on-air talent with daily show preparation and content development
Support the team with research on sports stories, trending topics, and potential guests
Help brainstorm show themes, segment ideas, and graphics elements
Assist with scripts, rundowns, and production notes as needed
Coordinate with writers, producers, and digital team members to help keep projects organized and updated
Monitor breaking sports news and flag relevant developments to the team
Participate in editorial meetings and observe how stories are pitched, discussed, and assigned
Provide general production and administrative support to the sports department as needed

Basic Qualifications:
Entering Junior year or higher at an accredited 4-year college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong interest in sports media, television production, or journalism
Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Solid news judgment and awareness of current sports events and storylines
Willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute ideas
