THE UNIT:
Allegheny General Hospital's 5A Telemetry Observation Unit is a specialized 38 bed unit focused on providing rapid assessment, treatment, and monitoring for patients with acute medical conditions. The unit primarily serves patients presenting with chest pain, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), trauma, and altered mental status. Patients awaiting IR procedures and those no longer able to care for themselves at home are also care for on this unit. 5A operates as a Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) or Observation Unit, providing a bridge between the Emergency Department and longer stay inpatient care.

Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), located on the North Side of Pittsburgh, is a 550+ bed hospital renowned for its advanced care across nearly every medical and surgical specialty. AGH is proud to hold Magnet recognition for nursing excellence and was the first accredited Level 1 Trauma Center in western Pennsylvania, providing 24/7 care for all types of traumatic injuries.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Responsible and accountable for a designated patient population for the purpose of providing care based upon enactment of the nursing process.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates clinical assessment skills and care planning skills.
  • Provides safe and effective care for the age population served according to regulatory requirements.
  • Professionally directs and manages the activities of the patient care delivery by the team members.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team for the plan of care from admission through discharge.
  • Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provides education based on age, culture and willingness to learn.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
  • Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • CPR certification
  • 1 year RN experience
