Position Description

The Design Engineer contributes to the design and development of medical device components, assemblies, and fixtures at Applied Medical, working onsite as part of the Enabling Instrumentation Development team. This role is well-suited for candidates with a background in product design engineering, mechanical design, or biomedical device development who are looking to apply their skills in a cross-functional medical device engineering environment. The Design Engineer performs root cause analysis on component and product failures, implements corrective actions, and translates clinical needs and surgical procedure requirements into actionable design specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop detailed engineering drawings and specifications based on project requirements using CAD software to produce two-dimensional and three-dimensional models.
  • Perform root cause analysis on component and product failures and implement corrective actions to improve product performance and manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation including drawings, specifications, and design review records.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including clinical development engineering, operations, process development, product managers, and manufacturing teams to support seamless product integration.
  • Identify and resolve design and development challenges by generating solutions, analyzing root causes, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Interpret clinical needs and relevant surgical procedure requirements to develop design requirements and specifications that address user needs.
  • Contribute to continuous innovation within the product development process to drive design improvement and project success.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering, or manufacturing engineering, or equivalent.
  • Two to three years of experience in product development with demonstrated personal design experience.
  • Proficiency with CAD software for two-dimensional and three-dimensional product modeling.
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and software development processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex product development projects and identify critical design elements.
  • Experience planning and managing activities within an engineering environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to work across functional groups.
