Job description

Position Details
Advertising/Posting Title Communications Coordinator Posting Summary
The Leahy Institute brings financial and technical assistance, access to UVM research, faculty expertise, student projects and internships, and established UVM startup and engagement programs. Together, we will collaborate on impactful solutions that drive positive change for Vermont and beyond.
As the Communications Coordinator for the Office of Engagement and the Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships you will communicate about the work and impact of the Office of Engagement to national and regional media and to UVM and community partners. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for planning and executing strategies to reach audiences via web, social media platforms, and email communications. At the direction of the Director of the Office of Engagement, the Communications Coordinator will collaborate on department projects with staff on reports for Leahy Institute audiences. The position will plan and implement marketing strategies to promote participation in Office events and programs.
Functions include:
- Identifying and producing multimedia stories and content for key audiences (faculty, community members, journalists, economic development stakeholders, national rural development consortia)
- Manage and develop Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships channels (web, social, email)
- Produce regular reports for Leahy Institute audiences.
- Coordinate marketing and communications for annual RISE event.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor's degree. Three to four years of professional communications experience, with demonstrated experience in managing social media for an organization. Strong writing and editing skills, including feature stories and press releases. Creative and persuasive communication skills. Proficiency in multimedia production. Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, and manage deadlines independently. Attention to detail. Ability to integrate data and analytics into communications products. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, the value of academic research and the promise of resilient community development.
Desirable Qualifications
Preferred, but not required: experience in higher education or other complex organization.
Anticipated Pay Range $60,000 - $75,000 Other Information Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), Travel to and from worksites required, This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position FLSA Exempt Union Position Yes, UVMSU
