Description

Overview of Role: 

The Telecommunications Engineer (Journeyman) assesses, documents, and designs telecommunications infrastructure for Department of Defense installation network modernization projects. Key responsibilities include conducting on-site ISP/OSP cabling and telecom infrastructure surveys, developing documentation of existing telecommunications systems, and producing technical infrastructure diagrams. The role also coordinates circuit procurement and permit activities, identifies legacy systems for decommissioning, provides input on design package requirements, and supports cable plant design and specifications in collaboration with the OSP Engineer. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Assesses, documents, and designs telecommunications infrastructure for DoD installation network modernization projects. Conducts on-site ISP/OSP cabling and telecom infrastructure surveys; develops current-state documentation of existing telecommunications systems; produces DoDAF SV-1/SV-2 telecom infrastructure diagrams; coordinates ISP circuit procurement and facility permit activities; identifies legacy telecom systems targeted for decommissioning; provides input on ISP/OSP requirements for formal design packages; and supports the OSP Engineer on cable plant design and specifications. 

Educational and Certification Requirement:  

3 to 10 years' experience and a B.A./B.S.  

Telecommunications engineering background; DAF SSI 7700 and AF Manual 33-214 awareness; AutoCAD/Visio proficiency; site survey drawing production; cabling and OSP infrastructure diagrams 

Must have an Active Secret Clearance
