Electrical Technician

Job Summary
The Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical wiring systems, fixtures, and related components within telecommunications equipment shelters. This role works with both AC and DC systems, including low voltage, single-phase, and three-phase power, to ensure reliable and safe electrical infrastructure for telecom operations. The Electrical Technician follows the National Electrical Code (NEC), company specifications, and customer requirements, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Install and repair electrical wiring systems and fixtures in telecom equipment shelters, including:
  • Low voltage (data, alarming, control, 12V to 48V DC systems), rectifiers, and battery systems.
  • 120/240V single phase, 120/208V 3-phase, and 277/480V 3-phase systems.
  • Troubleshoot and service issues with electrical panels and systems, including communications, digital/analog signal, DC power, and AC power up to 480V.
  • Install conduits and raceways for electrical wires and cables, ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes.
  • Install equipment grounding systems per customer specifications.
  • Test electrical systems to verify proper installation, operation, and safety compliance.
  • Inspect electrical systems to determine repair or upgrade needs.
  • Replace conduit, wiring, and circuit breakers as necessary.
  • Work safely and cooperatively with co-workers, contractors, and the public.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Install all electrical systems in compliance with NFPA 70 National Electrical Code and company specifications.
  • Adhere to all company and industry safety standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and circuit construction.
  • Ability to route and secure wiring in an organized and logical manner.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Skilled in pipe bending and installation (EMT, PVC, threaded rigid).
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate forklift, telehandler, and aerial lift.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and smartphones/tablets for timekeeping, email, and documentation.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Relevant electrical experience required
  • Apprentice or Journeyman Electrician preferred  

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see color for identifying color-coded wiring.
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
  • Physical capability to pull wires and cables through conduits.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
