Job Description

Description: Support the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) Traffic Section staff in the areas of router/switch hardware replacement, maintenance and support, system integration, and support of communication peripherals throughout the State.

PLEASE NOTE: While this position has an end date of 9/30/2017, it is planned to extend beyond that time with additional funding that is in process.

Duties include:

Testing of hardware, peripherals and associated equipment.

Independent and diligent work practices in completing work in a timely manner.

Proposing new solutions to problem areas.

Monitoring of work tasks, and reporting on statuses of those tasks to management.

Planning and implementing redundancy to future or next generation technologies in ways that meet business needs.

Perform and configure port-based, protocol-based, and MAC-based VLANs.

Provide switch architecture, configuration, installation, backup/recovery, and monitoring.

Perform diagnostics on switches, Command Line Interface structure.

Responsible for configuring port parameters, layer-2 forwarding, and port load sharing.

Should be able to configure static IP forwarding and IP routing functions.

Provide and perform basic troubleshooting steps for layer-2 and layer-3 networks.

Updates relevant documentation in supporting the enterprise.

System documentation for troubleshooting, business continuity, and maintenance.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have at least 2 years experience in computer hardware implementation, troubleshooting, and support.

Knowledge of Windows/Linux platform operations, hardware/software functions and capabilities.

Prior experience in estimating and scheduling own work under minimal supervision.

Proven track record of resolving all assigned issues in accordance with established service level agreements.

Prior experience documenting configurations/processes/troubleshooting efforts.

Prior experience working in a fast-paced team environment.

Candidate will be required to travel in the support role throughout the state as required for ITMS site/field visits. Contract is renewable annually, not a short term project effort.

Prior experience within a customer service environment providing technical, analytical and diagnostic support
Prior experience assisting in network planning and connectivity for supported applications
Experience in router VLANS (ex. Cisco/Juniper), switch and IP peripheral device (ex. Digi/RuggedCom) implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Experience with 802.11G wireless implementations and support
Experience translating technical terms into layman's language, and communicating both technical and non-technical information orally and in writing.
Experience working with serial communications (RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485)
Experience configuring and supporting dynamic routing protocol Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
Experience configuring and supporting the exterior gateway protocol known as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
Experience working with video encoders/decoders over IP and video control software in web and client server environments.
Prior experience with IT customer support in a transportation environment
Prior experience coordinating enhancements for network modernization/improvement
Experience actively participating in analysis and evaluation of emerging hardware standards as they apply to the network and/or related applications.
