Job description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Microwave Technician to support a growing telecommunications and network infrastructure team in the Mooresville, NC area.

The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of microwave radio systems, RF systems, or small cell technologies, along with experience in installation, maintenance, lab staging, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting. Candidates should possess a strong mechanical or electronics background, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow within the role.

This position offers a mix of field deployment and lab-based work, providing hands-on experience with network infrastructure projects across North Carolina and throughout the United States.

Key ResponsibilitiesLab Staging & Equipment Preparation
  • Receive, inventory, and stage telecommunications hardware according to engineering documentation.
  • Build and configure equipment racks to OEM specifications in a lab environment.
  • Prepare systems for deployment by verifying functionality and field readiness.
RF Fabrication & Connectivity
  • Assemble and terminate RF cabling, including N-Type, SMA, and DIN connectors.
  • Install, mate, and seal waveguide systems and flanges.
  • Perform cable routing, labeling, and equipment integration activities.
Testing & Validation
  • Utilize RF power meters, Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, and other test equipment to validate system performance.
  • Conduct signal testing, transmission line verification, and path loss simulations.
  • Troubleshoot RF, microwave, and telecommunications equipment issues.
Field Installation & Deployment
  • Travel to project sites to install and commission telecommunications equipment.
  • Deploy microwave backhaul systems on towers, rooftops, and other infrastructure locations.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure successful installations and project completion.
Power & Grounding
  • Install and commission DC power systems, rectifiers, and battery backup equipment.
  • Perform site grounding and bonding activities for indoor and outdoor telecommunications equipment.
Telecommunications Cabling
  • Complete telecom cabling tasks, including terminating wires on 66 and 110 punch-down blocks.
  • Install and wire environmental monitoring and alarm systems.

  • 1+ years of experience installing, repairing, staging, assembling, or maintaining microwave radio, RF, small cell, or related telecommunications systems.
  • Working knowledge of RF systems, electronics, telecommunications infrastructure, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Understanding of two-way radio systems, cellular technologies, or wireless communications equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electronic aptitude.
  • Ability to follow engineering documentation and installation procedures.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and expand technical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience deploying RF networks or telecommunications equipment.
  • Knowledge of RF concepts, including:
    • Modulation
    • Attenuation
    • Signal propagation
    • Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
  • Experience installing and commissioning DC power systems, rectifiers, and battery backup solutions.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications grounding and bonding practices.
Work Schedule & Travel
  • Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Travel is generally around 25% but may increase to as much as 50% depending on project needs.
  • Most travel occurs during the workweek, with employees typically home on weekends.
  • Flexibility for occasional overtime, evening, or weekend support is required.
  • Team-oriented environment with technicians typically working in crews of 4-5 members.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mooresville, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
