Field Technician

About the Job

Cityside Fiber seeks a skilled Field Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot our fiber internet services. This role is the face of our company in the field, ensuring quality installations, resolving technical issues, and upholding safety standards. Success requires technical expertise, problem-solving agility, and a customer-first approach in dynamic environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fiber drop installations, splicing, trenching, boring, and conduit placement, and property restoration (landscaping, concrete/paver repair, turf protection, and final job-site cleanup)
  • Perform expanded drop bury installation duties, including job-site review, utility marking verification, customer-approved route review, customer and neighbor communication, stub-out locating, micro duct retrieval, Tobey box or flowerpot installation, and proper drop infrastructure tagging
  • Set up and operate fiber blowing equipment, verify assigned enclosures using mapping tools, establish safe work zones, inspect enclosures and splice cases, perform fusion splicing, route and tag fiber neatly, and verify light levels
  • Conduct quality control checks on installations and third-party/contractor work, including technical QA and contractor oversight of drop-bury installations, NID installs, fiber runs, vault access, conduit placement, labeling, and property conditions
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and resolve on-site service issues efficiently
  • Operate utility locating equipment to identify/mark gas, water, and electric lines
  • Interpret blueprints and document findings using digital mapping tools
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all field activities (installations, repairs, quality control checks, property cleanup), including photos and required forms, through designated company platforms such as COS, Kairos, or equivalent systems
  • Partner with engineering, customer service, and network teams to resolve complex issues, and provide regular updates to the technical support team and management on field operations
  • Communicate clearly with customers about installations and technical solutions
  • Mentor junior technicians, support training, and assist with cross-functional field assignments (ONT swaps, NID/enclosure resplicing, fiber re-blowing, contractor repair work, aerial installations, ride-alongs) as needed
  • Uphold Cityside Fiber's values of trust, integrity, and innovation in all field activities

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in telecom/fiber optics (field experience preferred)

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in all conditions, and multitask under pressure
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocols and telecom infrastructure
  • Valid driver's license with clean record and reliable transportation
