Position Overview
Kiewit is seeking a motivated Assistant Fiber Project Manager to support the delivery of fiber optic infrastructure on a large-scale data center project. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Engineers to ensure efficient coordination, accurate documentation, and successful project execution.
The ideal candidate has experience in fiber optic construction (OSP and/or ISP) and thrives in fast-paced, high-demand environments with aggressive schedules. This is a key development role offering the opportunity to build project management skills while supporting mission critical infrastructure projects.

Location
This role is based in Abilene, Texas.
Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Support
  • Assist Project Managers in coordinating all aspects of fiber installation scopes, including backbone, pathways, splicing, testing, and turnover activities
  • Support daily coordination between owners, contractors, subcontractors, and trade partners
  • Help maintain alignment between field execution and project schedules

Scheduling & Procurement Tracking
  • Assist with project schedules, look-ahead planning, and milestone tracking
  • Support material procurement and tracking, ensuring availability of fiber materials, equipment, and components
  • Track deliveries and coordinate with field teams to support uninterrupted construction progress

Documentation & Project Controls
  • Support preparation and tracking of:
    • RFIs (Requests for Information)
    • Submittals and approvals
    • Change management documentation
  • Maintain organized document control systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date project records
  • Assist with project reporting, including status updates, production tracking, and issue logs

Quality & Technical Support
  • Support QA/QC processes, ensuring compliance with project specifications and client requirements
  • Assist with the review and organization of fiber testing documentation, including:
    • OTDR testing
    • End-to-end certification results
  • Help ensure accuracy of as-built drawings and turnover documentation

Field & Execution Support
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents and Field Engineers to support daily construction activities
  • Assist in resolving field issues by coordinating with design teams, vendors, and project leadership
  • Support execution planning, sequencing, and closeout activities

Qualifications
Required
  • 3+ years of experience supporting construction or project management in telecom, fiber, low voltage, or electrical infrastructure
  • Experience with fiber optic infrastructure installation (OSP and/or ISP)

Familiarity with:
    • Fiber installation workflows and construction sequencing
    • Project coordination processes and field operations

Experience supporting:
    • Scheduling and procurement tracking
    • RFIs, submittals, and document control
    • Project reporting and coordination
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced construction environments with aggressive timelines

Preferred
  • Experience supporting data center or mission critical construction projects
  • Familiarity with fiber testing standards including OTDR and end-to-end certification processes
  • Experience working with construction management platforms (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
