Job description

Unit Tele - 4West

Unit Tele - 4West has 22 beds. Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. The nurse to patient ratio is 1 to 3-4. The EMR system used is Cerner. Common diagnoses and types of patients include stroke, TIA, seizure, TBI, and mixed medical tele.

Experience or 'Must have' skills: Must have 2-3 years experience in specialty--open to first time travelers.

Are RN's required to titrate drips: No. Common titratable &/or set rate drips include Heparin gtt, Amiodarone ftt, Cardizem gtt, DKA set rate or protocol.

Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? GE Apex Telemetry boxes- Central Telemetry Monitoring with 2 Monitor Techs. Nurses must be able to read and interpret, Nurses require passing dysrhythmia exam.

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? One Nurse Shift Manager, One Resource/Break RN-They do not take patient assignments.

Are there Nurse Aides on this unit/Ratios: 1-2 Unit Aides. RT/Equipment (i.e., Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, vents, etc.): Bipap and Cpap, HFNC, No vents.

Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 12 hrs, 6:45-7:15, schedules made out about 3 weeks in advance, self-scheduling by seniority, shift trades available., no block scheduling.

Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts in a 4 week schedule, Days - Sat/Sun, Nights - Fri/Sat. Holiday Requirements: Work into perm staff rotation. Is there Call or a Standby requirement?: No. Floating Requirements?: Float to IMCU (2West) or Med/Surg Departments.

Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided? Navy. Unit/Department Specific Orientation: 1 shift on unit. Additional Notes: It is a very busy unit, usually full at 22 patients. They stress the Bedside Shift Report, focus on Patient Experience, HCAHPS and core measures, specifically stroke measures. Want someone that will be invested in their mission and values. It is also important the traveler is self-motivated and team oriented.
