Job Title: BIM Manager

Location: Brighton, CO / Hybrid

Department: Drafting & Detailing

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $95,000 – $125,000 per year

Reports To: Vice President of Operations

About SteelCon Inc.

SteelCon Inc. is a leading fabricator of utility substation steel, heavy structural steel, and utility-scale transmission line poles. We are looking for a hands-on BIM Manager to manage our detailing environment, checking standards, Tekla models, and shop production drawings across our active projects and multi-facility operations.

Position Summary

The BIM Manager oversees the detailing, modeling, and checking pipeline to ensure 100% buildable, error-free fabrication packages. This role bridges project management and multi-facility manufacturing, enforcing checking protocols, managing internal detailers and third-party drafting vendors, and maintaining Tekla Structures / PowerFab templates across our production facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Detailing & QA/QC Oversight: Direct shop drawing production, model checking, and assembly mark validation across Tekla Structures and PowerFab.
  • Checking Protocols: Establish and enforce strict checking processes for shop drawings, anchor bolt layouts, fit-up tolerances, plate burn profiles, and galvanizing vent/drain requirements across all fabrication sites.
  • External Vendor Management: Coordinate, review, and manage outsourced detailing partners and contract checkers to meet project schedules.
  • Fabrication Optimization: Work directly with plant management to refine plate nesting, connection details, and slip joint vs. flange fit-up parameters for efficient multi-facility production.
  • Standardization: Maintain SteelCon's Tekla seed files, global labor modifiers, custom components, and automated bill-of-materials (BOM) export tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years of structural steel detailing/checking experience, with at least 3 years in utility substation steel or transmission structures.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced mastery of Tekla Structures and Tekla PowerFab. Exposure to IFC / XML data integration.
  • Code Knowledge: Deep understanding of AISC, AWS D1.1 tolerances, and OSHA erection safety requirements.
  • Shop Knowledge: Practical understanding of CNC plate burning, press brake limits, welding prep, and hot-dip galvanizing workflows in multi-plant environments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Drawing Precision: Shop drawing error rate resulting in shop/field rework < 0.5% rework cost.
  • Schedule Adherence: On-time delivery of IFC drawing packages to production > 95% on-time.
  • Checking Throughput: Average review turnaround for third-party drawing submittals < 3 business days.
