Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Hospice of Baton Rouge is seeking a compassionate and experienced PRN Grief Group Facilitator to join our team at The Retreat at Quarters Lake.

This position provides compassionate, professional support to children, teens, adults, and families coping with loss through grief support groups, educational workshops, camps, memorial events, and community outreach programs. Using trauma-informed and grief-informed practices, the Grief Group Facilitator creates a safe, supportive environment that promotes healing, connection, and healthy coping while integrating clinical knowledge, cultural sensitivity, and evidence-based grief theories into program delivery.

COMPENSATION: $75 per facilitated group.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitate grief support groups for children, teens, and adults in a compassionate, professional, and trauma-informed manner.

  • Lead educational workshops, memorial events, grief camps, and community outreach initiatives.

  • Foster a safe, supportive, inclusive, and confidential environment where participants feel comfortable sharing and healing.

  • Provide emotional support to individuals and families while helping participants develop healthy coping strategies following loss.

  • Monitor participant well-being during group sessions and respond appropriately to crises, safety concerns, or high-risk situations by following organizational policies and making referrals when appropriate.

  • Ensure group sessions are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and tailored to participant needs.

  • Apply evidence-based grief counseling models, including Worden's Tasks of Mourning, Kübler-Ross, and the Dual Process Model, when developing and facilitating programs.

  • Integrate spirituality and cultural considerations into care when appropriate.

  • Assist in developing engaging group activities, educational materials, presentations, and workshop content.

  • Collaborate with The Retreat's leadership and staff to coordinate programming and address participant needs.

  • Maintain accurate attendance records, documentation, and program evaluations in accordance with organizational standards.

  • Represent The Retreat professionally during community events, outreach initiatives, and organizational activities.

  • Assist in promoting grief services throughout the community.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or another social or behavioral science field required.

  • Master's degree preferred.

Certifications or Licensure:

  • Current Louisiana LPC or LCSW license in good standing required.

Work Experience:

  • Experience facilitating support groups or providing counseling required.

  • Experience in grief counseling, hospice, bereavement, or mental health settings preferred.

  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families preferred.

  • Familiarity with evidence-based grief counseling theories and trauma-informed practices.

Special Skills:

  • Excellent group facilitation and communication skills.

  • Ability to build rapport with participants of all ages, families, volunteers, and community partners.

  • Strong knowledge of grief, loss, trauma, and family dynamics.

  • Ability to recognize crisis situations and respond appropriately.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Other Requirements:

  • Availability to facilitate evening grief support groups and occasional weekend workshops, camps, or community events.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
