Job description

Referral Partner Manager
Field-Based | Part-Time | ~20 Hours/Week | $20/Hour + Performance Incentives
Help Connect Families to the Care They Need ♥
Backpack Healthcare is a Medicaid-first, whole-family behavioral telehealth provider helping children, teens, young adults, and families access high-quality mental healthcare.
We're looking for an energetic, outgoing Referral Partner Manager to help us expand our referral network and strengthen relationships with healthcare and community partners in an assigned local territory.
This is a true field-based relationship-building role. You'll spend your time meeting people face-to-face, introducing Backpack's services, educating referral partners, and re-engaging organizations that have gone quiet.
And we make it easy: your weekly stops, contacts, addresses, and driving routes are planned for you in advance. You focus on building relationships-we'll handle the logistics.
What Your Week Looks Like
This role follows a predictable weekly schedule:
  • 3 field days per week: Approximately 4-6 hours/day visiting referral partners
  • 1 designated report day: Approximately 1-2 hours for your weekly results report and manager check-in
  • Total: Approximately 19-20 hours/week
  • Schedule: Consistent weekday availability required
  • Availability: Monday-Friday, generally between 9:30 AM-12:00 PM and 1:00-3:00 PM

You'll receive your itinerary and route at the beginning of each week, including stops, addresses, and contacts. Your job is to execute the plan, build relationships, and document your results.
What You'll Do
As a Referral Partner Manager, you will:
  • Visit pediatric practices, FQHCs, private practices, hospitals, discharge teams, social service organizations, and other community partners
  • Introduce Backpack Healthcare and educate referral sources about our services and referral process
  • Re-engage previous referral partners and help reactivate relationships that have gone quiet
  • Build meaningful, face-to-face relationships with physicians, social workers, case managers, administrators, discharge planners, and other key contacts
  • Represent Backpack at community events and outreach opportunities as assigned
  • Document meaningful visits and relationship activity in HubSpot the same day
  • Submit a weekly activity plan and results report
  • Help grow a consistent, measurable referral pipeline
What Success Looks Like
You'll have clear goals and the tools to achieve them.
Weekly targets include:
  • 18-30 meaningful in-person visits
  • At least 3 new or reactivated referral partners
  • 100% same-day documentation compliance

A meaningful visit is a 5+ minute face-to-face interaction that introduces services, provides education, addresses needs, or advances the relationship. Simply dropping off materials does not count as a meaningful visit.
Documentation Matters
This role is designed to create a reliable, trackable referral pipeline. Every meaningful visit must be documented in HubSpot the same day.
You'll capture key details such as:
  • Who you met
  • The organization/account
  • Whether the account is new, active, inactive, or reactivated
  • What you discussed
  • Feedback or anticipated referral activity
  • Next steps

Marketing-material drop-offs are still encouraged and may contribute to performance incentives when they generate a new referral partner.
Compensation
Base Pay: $20/hour
  • Approximately 19-20 hours/week
  • Non-exempt, hourly position
  • Paid time includes scheduled field and reporting hours
☆ Performance Incentive
Earn an additional $100/week when you activate 5+ referral partners in a week.
An activated partner is a targeted prospect who submits and has referrals received by Backpack Healthcare.
Week is defined as Sunday-Saturday.
What We're Looking For
You'll thrive in this role if you are:
  • Outgoing and personable - you genuinely enjoy meeting new people
  • Reliable and comfortable driving between multiple locations each day
  • Confident with cold outreach and introducing yourself to new organizations
  • A natural relationship builder who can represent Backpack professionally
  • Comfortable using a smartphone and basic technology for same-day documentation
  • Comfortable learning a CRM such as HubSpot
  • Dependable and able to maintain consistent weekday availability
Preferred, But Not Required
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
  • Healthcare outreach
  • Pharmaceutical or medical device sales
  • Community health
  • Healthcare business development
  • Referral development
  • Field sales
  • Social services or community-based organizations

Healthcare experience is helpful-but personality, reliability, and relationship-building skills are what matter most.
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel throughout your assigned territory
  • Consistent availability during the designated weekday hours
  • Ability to complete required documentation and weekly reporting
♥ Why Backpack Healthcare?
At Backpack, we believe access to mental healthcare should be easier for families.
As a clinician-led, Medicaid-first behavioral health organization, we're working to remove barriers to care and connect families with the support they need-when they need it.
If you're someone who loves being out in the community, meeting new people, building genuine relationships, and making a measurable impact, we'd love to meet you!
