COMSEC Specialist 

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled COMSEC Modernization Analyst to support the Army’s critical Communications Security (COMSEC) modernization efforts. This role will be instrumental in implementing the Army Unified Network Plan and the Cryptographic Modernization Initiative (CMI), ensuring the security and integrity of Army networks and National Security Systems (NSS). The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of cryptographic principles, cybersecurity technologies, and DoD policies related to COMSEC, with a focus on transitioning to modern, agile cryptographic solutions and a Zero Trust architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Plan & Support Modernization: Contribute to the development and implementation of COMSEC Modernization Plans (CMPs) for Army systems, ensuring compliance with CJCSN 6510, CJCS Instruction 6510.02F, and NSA guidance.
  • Algorithm & Capability Compliance: Analyze existing and proposed systems to verify compliance with requirements and cryptographic standards.
  • Cryptographic Modernization Initiatives: Support the implementation of cryptographic modernization initiatives, including evaluating and integrating new cryptographic capabilities.
  • Tactical Radio Modernization: Contribute to the modernization of the Army’s large inventory of tactical radios, ensuring secure communications capabilities and compliance with evolving cryptographic standards.
  • Zero Trust Implementation: Assist in the implementation of the DoD Zero Trust Reference Architecture, adapting cryptographic agility requirements and ensuring security requirements for cryptographic modules, data loss prevention, and data loss management are met.
  • Technical Analysis: Conduct technical analysis of COMSEC equipment, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation related to COMSEC modernization efforts, including CMPs, risk assessments, and status reports.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with Program Executive Offices (PEOs), the DCS G-6, and other stakeholders to ensure successful COMSEC modernization across the Army.
  • Stay Current: Maintain a thorough understanding of evolving threats, DoD and Army modernization strategies, and emerging cryptographic technologies.
  • DOTMLPF-P Considerations: Evaluate the impact of COMSEC modernization on all aspects of Army operations (Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership & Education, Personnel, Facilities, and Policy).
  • Cyber Resiliency: Contribute to the integration of COMSEC capabilities with the Army’s overall cyber defensive operations.
  • All other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience with cryptographic principles, algorithms, and protocols.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity policies and regulations (e.g., CJCSN 6510, AR 25-2, DA Pam 25-2-16).
  • Experience with tactical radio systems and their cryptographic implementations is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must demonstrate a respectful demeanor.  
Preferred & Desired Qualifications
  • Certifications related to cryptography or cybersecurity.
  • TS/SCI clearance w/ poly. 

Clearance:

  • DoD current security clearance; Top Secret/SCI or higher.   

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field. Years of experience can substitute for a degree. Military training can also factor in the degree requirement. 
  • 15 years of experience in COMSEC, cybersecurity, or a related field.

  • Up to 25%.
