Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Technical Procedure Writer to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Responsibilities
  • Develop new, revised, or modified technical procedures which enable personnel to safety and correctly perform tasks associated with dimensional inspection, material testing, metrology, procurement, radiography, and weld inspection.
  • Responsible for complying with Y15-232, Technical Procedure Process, and the Technical Procedure Authoring Tool (TPAT).
  • Develop or revise administrative procedures and are responsible for complying with Y15-235, Administrative Management Requirements Process, and the Administrative Procedure Authoring Tool (APAT).
  • Develop Enterprise procedures applicable to Y-12 and Pantex.
  • Familiar with the regulatory and administrative requirements affecting procedures and determine the technical requirements that apply to the procedures by examining DOE Orders and Standards; 60-101PD, Quality Assurance Program Description, and Y60-015, Integrated Quality Manual; Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documents; and Hazard Analysis documents.
  • Prepare & coordinate procedure reviews and comment resolution.
  • Implement hazard controls, captures quality and performance data, and ensure that the procedure can be performed as written through verification and validation.

Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of experience in technical disciplines in addition to experience writing technical procedures in a commercial or Weapons Complex facility. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, a technical background with 18 years of experience in writing technical procedures in a commercial nuclear or Weapons Complex may be considered.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Prior experience writing technical procedures in a commercial or weapons complex facility.
  • Familiar with the regulatory and administrative requirements affecting procedures and must determine the technical requirements that apply to the procedures by examining DOE Orders and Standards; 60-101PD, Quality Assurance Program Description, and Y60-015, Integrated Quality Manual; Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documents; and Hazard Analysis documents.
  • Experience developing new, revising, or modifying technical procedures which enable personnel to safety and correctly perform tasks associated with dimensional inspection, material testing, metrology, procurement, radiography, and weld inspection.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation's only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
