How much do technology transfer jobs pay per hour?
How can I get a technology transfer job?
To get a job in technology transfer, you typically need to earn an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or a related subject. Many employers prefer candidates with some experience in the field, and you can participate in internships while you complete your education to develop secondary skills in contract and intellectual property law. Other qualifications include familiarity with technology licensing and the patent application process. You should also demonstrate a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment.

What is the difference between Technology Transfer vs Research Scientist?
| Aspect | Technology Transfer | Research Scientist |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's or Master's in science, engineering, or related fields; often some experience in industry or licensing | Typically a Ph.D. in a scientific discipline; research experience |
| Work Environment | Industry, corporate R&D, or university tech transfer offices; focus on commercialization | Laboratories, academic or industrial research settings; focus on experimentation and discovery |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Universities, government labs, biotech, and tech companies | Universities, research institutes, biotech firms |
Technology Transfer professionals focus on licensing, commercialization, and bridging research to market, while Research Scientists conduct experiments and generate new scientific knowledge. Both roles require strong scientific backgrounds but differ in their primary objectives and work environments.

Job description
You will be hands-on throughout the transfer process: characterizing and maturing processes, developing manufacturing readiness plans, validating equipment and process capability, troubleshooting production challenges, and establishing the documentation and training required for a successful launch. You'll partner closely with NPI, Design, Operations, Quality, Equipment, and Controls teams to ensure products transition smoothly from launch into stable, capable manufacturing processes that consistently achieve yield, cycle time, and quality targets while minimizing risk during production ramp.
This is a highly cross-functional role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex manufacturing problems, working directly on the production floor, and turning innovative technologies into reliable, scalable manufacturing processes that enable the future of power and data transmission across EV, energy storage, data centers, and aerospace applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Own the transfer of products from NPI into high-volume manufacturing, including 25 - 50 % travel to the high volume manufacturing site (Georgetown, TX)
- Scale and mature manufacturing processes from NPI builds to repeatable, high-volume production, with a focus on yield, throughput, cycle time, quality, and manufacturability
- Establish and validate process windows, operating parameters, and control strategies required to achieve production targets.
- Lead process qualification, capability studies, and structured validation activities to demonstrate that processes can consistently meet production requirements.
- Partner with customer-facing teams and cross-functional engineering groups to resolve technical gaps and drive launch readiness
- Provide hands-on, on-site launch ownership and line support during high-volume ramp, including troubleshooting, debugging, and rapid resolution of process issues.
- Conduct structured experiments and root cause analysis to de-risk manufacturing scale-up and accelerate product launches
- Work hands-on with high-volume manufacturing equipment
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation and train staff to ensure smooth handoff from Tech Transfer into sustained high-volume production
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Experience/Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on professional experience
- Experience with roll-to-roll/web handling manufacturing processes with materials under tension is strongly preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proven experience transitioning processes from pilot production into high-volume production
- Strong background in process design for manufacturability, yield improvement, and cost reduction
- Experience with production launches, process transfers, and manufacturing scale-up activities
- Prior manufacturing start-up experience.
- Familiarity with advanced materials and high-volume manufacturing methods (e.g., vacuum lamination, thermally-activated adhesives, roll-to-roll processing, material patterning, laser welding)
- Solid background in statistical methods, data visualization, systematic experiment design, and related software (e.g. JMP, Minitab, etc.)
- Ability to synthesize and interpret complex data sets to understand physical phenomena and support data-driven decisions
- Ability to safely and confidently operate and troubleshoot custom manufacturing and metrology equipment
- Independent problem solver with a desire to learn new skills and new technology
- Strong organization skills and a detail-oriented mindset
- Able to adapt to changing requirements in a fast-paced start-up setting
- Strong communicator and collaborator, energized by working across functions to bring products to market
- Ability and willingness to travel 25-50%, mainly to our manufacturing facility in Georgetown, TX.
At CelLink, you won't just be scaling processes - you'll be building the bridge between innovation and mass production.
