Position Details:

Transcard offers an internship program in the FinTech industry. Our program is designed to provide you with meaningful projects utilized by the business. You'll see the direct impact of your contribution and get an inside perspective of your desired field while working alongside some of the best in our industry.

This intern position will operate Monday-Friday during standard business hours. This position is a paid internship, compensation will be based on the qualifications of the applicant.

Our goal is to allow you to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities within the Information Technology department while working toward your professional goals as related to your academic coursework.

Our corporate office is located in Chattanooga, TN.

We prefer our interns to be onsite in Chattanooga, TN. We do offer remote capabilities for qualified individuals. Candidate must reside in the US. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The SQL Database Administrator Intern is an entry-level developmental role supporting the  Database Administration team. This internship provides hands-on exposure to  enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments with a primary focus on database  platform operations, system health monitoring, performance fundamentals, and  general SQL tasks. Working under the guidance of experienced Database  Administrators, the intern will assist with daily operational activities while  learning industry best practices related to database operations, availability,  reliability, security, performance, and diagnostic workflows. All work is  performed under direct supervision and in accordance with established  procedures. The internship is designed as a development pathway toward a future  Junior Database Administrator position.

Assist in monitoring SQL Server environments for availability and system health.

Review database monitoring dashboards and alerting tools.

Validate successful execution of SQL Server Agent jobs.

Assist in verifying database backup operations.

Participate in supervised database restore testing in non-production environments.

Monitor disk utilization, storage growth, CPU usage, and memory trends.

Support capacity tracking and utilization reporting.

Assist in maintaining database inventories and environment documentation.

Review performance metrics and learn to identify potential tuning opportunities.

Participate in analysis of slow-running queries under DBA guidance.

Support routine database maintenance and health reviews.

Assist with security access reviews and documentation.

Maintain runbooks, operational procedures, and standard documentation.

Escalate identified issues in accordance with documented processes.

The intern will not perform independent production changes, deployments, or schema modifications.

Microsoft SQL Server architecture, internals, and core components.

T-SQL fundamentals.

Indexing concepts and execution plan analysis.

Query performance troubleshooting techniques.

SQL Server monitoring and diagnostic tools.

Backup and recovery strategies.

Capacity planning fundamentals.

High availability and disaster recovery concepts (observational).

Infrastructure, Windows Server, and storage fundamentals.

Requirements

Coursework involving database systems or data management.


Education and/or Certifications:

Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
